This article lists the minor HECU members who have no direct or a minor influence on the Half-Life story arc.

Santego Military Base[edit]

Opposing Force’s training chapter, Boot Camp, begins in Adrian Shephard's barracks in the Santego Military Base where Senior Drill Instructor Dwight T. Barnes introduces himself. Shephard and seven other recruits are standing at attention in front of their beds and trunks. Each trunk bears the name of the recruit it belongs to, most being references to the Gearbox employees who developed the game.

Goose 7, crash site & Aftermath[edit]

The introduction chapter of Opposing Force, Incoming, begins with Adrian Shephard and his squad being flown to the Black Mesa Research Facility in the Osprey Heliplane codenamed Goose 7. After their transport is attacked and crash lands, Shephard briefly witnesses other scattered military forces battling aliens near the wreckage.

Benny[edit]

Benny (entity name[2]) is a soldier seen during Opposing Force’s introduction chapter.

After Goose 7 crashed, Shephard saw a wounded Benny attempting to run away from a Vortigaunt. He was unable to escape, however, and an energy beam stuck him in the back. Benny is last seen crumpling to the ground as Shephard blacked out.

Dim Jose[edit]

Dim Jose (entity name[2]) is an Engineer that appears in both the Missing in Action & Friendy Fire chapters of Half-Life: Opposing Force. When using the radio, either Dim or his partner inform Adrian they were also left behind & state they're gonna blow the entrance door down. After doing so, Dim tells Adrian that somebody screwed up, with his partner telling Adrian to forget about Freeman. Dim is simply the introduction to the engineer NPC that is later used for other engineers in the game. Dim's netname (squad) is ronjamero with his partners entity name being darkmoctermann.

Dave & Mike[edit]

Dave (entity name[[1]]) & Mike (entity name[2]) are soldiers seen during Opposing Force’s chapter Friendly Fire. After Adrian makes his way inwards of the Lambda Sector Transport, he comes across Dave & Mike in which the three fight off Black Ops Assassins however later Adrian splits apart from the two, making it unknown if they survived.

Jackson[edit]

Jackson is an Engineer and a member of Shephard's squad sent to Black Mesa in Goose 7.

As Goose 7 was traveling to Black Mesa, Jackson briefly joked about Tower's mother and proclaimed he didn't care what their mission was as long as he would be able to kill something. As Tower attempted to draw Shephard into the argument, the Osprey flying alongside them, Goose 3, was shot down by an Alien Craft. Shortly afterward, Goose 7 was attacked as well, causing it to crash.

Johnson[edit]

Johnson (entity name[2]) is a Medic seen during the introduction chapter.

In the ensuing chaos after Goose 7 went down, Johnson brought an unconscious Shephard to safety away from the crash site. Shephard briefly awoke to see Johnson calling out a warning to Benny of impending danger. As he blacked out again, he last saw the Medic rushing to Benny's aid. When Shephard returns to this area later on, he finds the Vortigaunt dead with a Combat Knife in its back, implied to have been used by Johnson. In the fifth chapter Friendly Fire a wounded HECU engineer shares the same entity name.

Guido[edit]

Guido (entity name[2]) is a Medic seen during the fifth chapter Friendly Fire in Half-Life: Opposing Force. In the chapter, Guido is seen outside the Lambda Sector Transport in Sector E and is primarily used to help out Johnson (entity name[2]), a wounded HECU engineer in order to open the door to Sector E. Funnily enough, Guido's scripted sequence entity name is meet_the_medic.

Tower[edit]

Private Tower is a member of Shephard's squad sent to Black Mesa in Goose 7. He is seen carrying a Submachine Gun and an ammo belt. When he questions the unexplained secrecy of their mission, Tower is berated by the commanding sergeant on board the Osprey. Shortly afterwards, their aircraft is attacked and crash lands.

Later on in his journey through Black Mesa, Shephard finds the members of Team X-Ray Zulu, all KIA. However, their radio is still functional, and he overhears a radio transmission from a soldier who has engaged the Pit Worm with his unit. The transmission reveals that Tower survived Goose 7's crash and joined up with a different unit but was then killed, as the commander notes "Tower and Eddy are down, and I've lost contact with the rest of the squad.".

Tower is also a selectable character model in the multiplayer modes of Opposing Force.

Other[edit]

Commander[edit]

The commander (real name: Unknown) of the operation[3] (voiced by Harry S. Robins) is a character first heard in Half-Life in the chapter Surface Tension. He calls out to Cooper over the radio to request any final air strikes on the Tactical Map before retreating to safety, a transmission heard by Gordon Freeman. He is seen in person by Adrian in Opposing Force during the chapter We Are Pulling Out announcing these orders. Once he finishes, he addresses Adrian and tells him to get down to the hangar for evacuation.

Colonel[edit]

The Colonel[2] (real name: Unknown) was an HECU soldier that appears in Half-Life: Blue Shift. In the seventh chapter A Leap of Faith, The Colonel & other soldiers are tasked with killing Barney Calhoun and Rosenberg to stop them from escaping through teleportation. The Colonel can optionally be killed however his fate presumably revolves around him being deceased.

Cooper[edit]

Cooper was an HECU soldier responsible for operating the Tactical Map set up in Waste Processing Area 3 to call down mortars on Black Mesa. His corpse is found by Gordon Freeman during the Half-Life chapter Surface Tension atop a large waste container next to the map and a radio. Cooper's commander[4] attempts to contact him on the radio, telling Cooper identify any last targets before retreating to safety as airstrikes would soon begin. The commander sending this message to Cooper can be seen by Adrian Shephard in the process of transmitting it during Opposing Force in the chapter "We Are Pulling Out".

Eddy[edit]

As heard in a radio transmission in the Opposing Force chapter Vicarious Reality, Eddy and his squad (including Tower) had engaged the Pit Worm in the waste sector of Black Mesa and were killed before Shephard arrived. Note: the spelling of this name is unsure as it is only heard in a garbled radio transmission.

Barry[edit]

Barry[2] was an HECU soldier that is seen in Half-Life: Blue Shift. His corpse lied next to another HECU soldier during the sixth chapter Power Struggle.

David Mertz[edit]

David Mertz[2] is an HECU soldier that is seen in Half-Life: Decay. While crawling in one of the ventilation shafts, the player spots David "interrogating" one of the security guards before shooting & killing him. He is eventually killed by the player. David Mertzs' entity name is a reference to the writer & developer of Gearbox Software under the same name.
