Stuff[edit]

Here's a nice "megathread" with all the info and stuff in one neat place. Plenty of info. This whole thing reeked of Adam Foster when it came out. And, it seems that at least one of the dinosaur photos is nigh on identical to a photo in Adam's flicker page. --Fireman V2 02:01, March 4, 2010 (UTC)

Oh, duuur. the link --Fireman V2 02:02, March 4, 2010 (UTC)
Wow I thought you were going to complain or ask for stuff that's already there. I'm impressed! Thanks for the link. ;-) Klow 04:27, March 4, 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I have been in some sort of rut lately. You're welcome for the link. --Fireman V2 05:49, March 4, 2010 (UTC)
Whoah, have you been watching that page? They're finding Xen Skyboxes in the GCF and what seems to be the EP2 bridge. (If you've been asleep, I apologize) --Fireman V2 15:14, March 4, 2010 (UTC)
You might already know this, but new thread: [1] --Fireman V2 15:26, March 4, 2010 (UTC)
The Xen skybox has been in the game files from the start. What about the Ep2 bridge? Klow 17:16, March 4, 2010 (UTC)

credits altered?[edit]

it said the credits for Portal were changed a bit, but i just beat it again, examined the credits closely, and saw no noticeable difference. anyone see one? the cake is a lie 02:59, March 4, 2010 (UTC)

I added details and a video link. Klow 04:27, March 4, 2010 (UTC)
Removed, this is likely unrelated, given the context in which the player achieved it (just a glitch, then). Indeed, my own credits are actually unchanged.--— Unsigned comment by Klow
Agreed, the credits didn't change. (I've just beaten the game now) --CrazyTerabyte 07:56, March 4, 2010 (UTC)

About last 2 "Undetermined" images in ASCII art section[edit]

Looks like, these images are same as previous, just they looks different because were grabbed from other program, which connects to BBS.

  • First image (with the chemist): File:Ascii09.png File:Ascii29.png
  • Second one (with formula of smth organic and "an apple"): File:Ascii14.png File:Ascii30.png — Unsigned comment by X-Pilot
Oh damn, good find. I remove them. And don't forget to sign! Klow 10:56, March 5, 2010 (UTC)
I removed them from here as well to avoid redlinks. Klow 10:59, March 5, 2010 (UTC)

PORTAL 2 ANNOUNCED![edit]

HOORAY! SiPlus 18:03, March 5, 2010 (UTC)

A news update announcing portal 2 contained the following underlined letters: drattmannh0nee

These seem to be another login for the Aperture BBS; drattmann/h0nee . Here's a text dump from it?: http://pastebin.com/stHSgY2V

more info here, but it seems there may be co-op in portal 2 --Jrr 19:19, March 5, 2010 (UTC)

Ratman[edit]

You may know this, but the update news gave us a username and password for the BBS. The user's name is... D. RattMann. D: --65.100.114.216 20:04, March 5, 2010 (UTC)

Orange Box[edit]

are the updates only for the PC version of Portal, or are they also in the Orange Box (consoles)? --TastyPasta16 02:05, March 6, 2010 (UTC)

No idea. Ask on the Steam forums. Klow 12:43, March 6, 2010 (UTC)
Only for the PC. DAWeeE1 12:53, March 6, 2010 (UTC)

Military Android[edit]

I was thinking that in Testchamber 16, GLaDOS mentions Military Androids and Android Hell. The ASCII robots could be those androids or the one that drags you away in the new ending. What do you all think?--98.74.21.182 16:26, March 6, 2010 (UTC)

That's already speculated here. --Fireman V2 00:04, March 7, 2010 (UTC)
"Here, There, and Everywhere." Klow 02:13, March 7, 2010 (UTC)

On the canonicity of the updates[edit]

The page says that the updates are non-canon and might even be removed.

However, another viral marketing site, ApertureScience.com is canon.

So, should the updates be considered canon?

I'm posting this because the updates are not listed in Canon page.

ASBusinessMagnet 16:52, March 6, 2010 (UTC)

It says the presence of the radios are likely not. The new Portal ending is and overrides the original one, and most of the other data is canon as well. Klow 17:04, March 6, 2010 (UTC)
Okay. ASBusinessMagnet 17:18, March 6, 2010 (UTC)
Radios are used to promote Portal 2, but the ApertureScience.com is canon except holiday vault. SiPlus 17:43, April 5, 2010 (UTC)

You have the address/location wrong[edit]

See my post at http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1169586&page=15 I ordered a reverse lookup on the BBS number and explained why Portal 2 has nothing to do with Kirkland city hall (or that area in general) 98.127.168.159 03:59, March 8, 2010 (UTC)

Ok I see. Thanks for that. BrentNewland, is that you? So overall the number belongs to Foster? Klow 12:48, March 8, 2010 (UTC)

Bean Counters[edit]

Bean conters is an informal title for accountants or financial staff. This fact is supported by this page... http://www.answers.com/topic/bean-counter References to bean counters by Cave Johnson should probably be revised if agreed upon.

gameinformer revealing all images[edit]

if you look at all images gathered from the bbs, and then at the gameinformer april issue and the gameinformer articles on the portal 2 hub, you can see that all images from the asci art are being revealed so we can see what they really are, cool isnt it? (also, some image was scanned in from the article and when compared to the asci art didnt really look like it, if ound a nice image that isnt scanned in and looks better http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/03/19/tell-us-everything-you-want-to-know-about-portal-2.aspx?PageIndex=1 i already uploaded it!) its funny isnt it? seeing all kind of speculation being cleared up! "i think thats a dinosaur" *2 days later on gameinformer* "oh! its a turret!" Freekkiller7 14:56, March 22, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for that pic! I hope we get HQ versions in the future. Klow 15:48, March 22, 2010 (UTC)

drattmannh0nee[edit]

hello everyone

thanks to a video on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3o9vvUYrCE ihave noticed that http://drattmannh0nee.com/ is a live website. the site has two pages with different names and different file names for the images (the video expalains it all.) anyway i decided to to do a whois lookup on the domain and the results are strange. The domains name server is ns1.nicholaschan.net see here http://whois.domaintools.com/drattmannh0nee.com. Now the site http://www.nicholaschan.net/ is on the same name server but i can only find weak affiliations with valve through mods for half life and counter stike maps. is this just a fan site or something deeper. most of the people who have worked on this ARG are alot cleverer than me so maybe we can find something new out. or maybe this is just a dead end.

--Meathead23 22:36, April 4, 2010 (UTC)

don't bother looking further into it, drattmanh0nee.com is a fan-made website just made (probably by forum trolls) to spam forums and make poeple think it's a clue for the arg while it leads to nothing Freekkiller7 17:35, April 5, 2010 (UTC)

How do you reverse ASCII?[edit]

How do you reverse ASCII? Just wondering, as I am going to set up a site dedicated to the Portal ARG. Spectrum Humanian 10:45, April 5, 2010 (UTC)

What do you mean by "reverse"?... Klow 13:31, April 5, 2010 (UTC)
ASCII is image to text. I would like to know how to do text to image. Spectrum Humanian 14:40, April 5, 2010 (UTC)
You know a couple of days ago when you could use TEXTp on youtube, google that, see what you can do with it, you might learn more about ascii, also search on wikipedia, google itand stuff. But you don't have to make a site or wiki dedicated to the arg, look here, its totally about it: www.portalwiki.net Freekkiller7 17:32, April 5, 2010 (UTC)
Just press PrintScreen in HyperTerminal on every page, then merge all pages to whole image and save it. SiPlus 17:48, April 5, 2010 (UTC)
@FK7 - I didn't mean a wiki, I mean a site. I don't want people editing my guesses. @SP - What is HyperTerminal? I know what PrintScreen is (above the insert button) but not HyperTerminal. Spectrum Humanian 18:00, April 5, 2010 (UTC)
not trying to be rude, but try this next time http://lmgtfy.com/?q=HyperTerminal Freekkiller7 13:44, April 6, 2010 (UTC)
AWESOME!! That website is the answer to the prayers of many. How can people stand in front of the word's greatest database and still say "I don't know what XXX is". Klow 21:32, April 6, 2010 (UTC)
Okay FK, but TinyURL it. Everytime someone forgets to TinyURL a LMGTFY, God kills a kitten. Spectrum Humanian 11:21, April 7, 2010 (UTC)
NOO OH GOD WHAT DID I DO! I luv kittens! God is cruel! But i still don't understand why they removed textp from youtube, it was funny. Freekkiller7 17:27, April 7, 2010 (UTC)

Not over yet?[edit]

I just noticed this when Garry's Mod wasn't loading properly...Portal is getting yet another update. Hrmmm....curious...72.87.52.2 20:28, May 12, 2010 (UTC)

I saw it as well. Could be due to Steam finally coming out on Mac. Dunno. We shall see.--YabbaMyIcingTalk 22:59, May 12, 2010 (UTC)
No, read the update news, guys. Portal is now free.
Wait, whaaaaaaat? --FiremanV2 01:57, May 13, 2010 (UTC)
An update wouldn't be required to make Portal free, let alone one of that size, they'd just tinker with the Steam Marketplace. - Halo-343 06:33, May 13, 2010 (UTC)

Cooperative Portal Testing Initiative definition[edit]

The commercial for the "free Portal kit" release refers to Portal 2 as the initiative. --Addict 2006 16:33, May 20, 2010 (UTC)

Skull and Cave Johnson transmission[edit]

The skull is a piggybank. I know, cause I have the same one. Granted, it might be an 'actual' skull in the game, just saying. Have the prop.

As for the Cave Johnson transmission, I think he was saying they were experiencing a blue shift, which is why the rest got garbled. Would certainly make more sense.

- TheInternetsNemFX 16:39, June 15, 2010 (UTC)

Actually, it says "everybody wearing a blue shirt today is fired" or something to that effect. Bramblepath 18:06, June 15, 2010 (UTC)

Surprise[edit]

Since we now know what the E3 surprise was, I think it's safe to remove the suspense from the subsection description and describe Gabe Newell's appearance at the Sony platform, all in the same subsection. Or whatever the term is. Could someone do that? --Smelltheashes 19:25, June 21, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I'd write a new section myself, but I'm not sure what day it was announced :P --FiremanV2 20:27, June 21, 2010 (UTC)
Sigh. Too much to do here. Klow 22:33, June 21, 2010 (UTC)
Ok I think we are up to date now. Klow 15:31, June 23, 2010 (UTC)
I like it. I think this concern can be put to rest. --98.233.41.17 22:09, June 24, 2010 (UTC)

About dinosaur 26.Wav[edit]

How do I download this[edit]

I bough Portal still alive on the xbox recently and I wanted to get Portal ARG with it. But it is not on the xbox market place. How do i get it? — Unsigned comment by 174.52.11.165

Reading at least the first sentence of the article might help. Klow 23:02, May 15, 2011 (UTC)

I read it. I was about to play the game and I wanted to see how many achievements I needed to get. Then I found this page that said a bonus achievement called "Transmission received" was added in the update. I don't see that achievement in my game. Is it a hidden one or something?

First of all, sign your posts. Secondly, the "Transmission Received" achievement was part of an update to the PC version of Portal, in which 26 or so radios were placed throughout the game with a red sprite on the front. When placed on a particular spot in the area where they are found, the radios stop playing "still alive" and instead begin to emit morse code or static, which translates to pictures when run through a certain program. You can read all about it in the Portal ARG article. Xeno the Hedgehog 00:17, May 16, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. Thats all I needed to know. I could not find anywhere in the article if the ARG was for for Windows, Xbox or playstation. Now I know it was not for the Xbox. Great game anyway. (and i have no idea how to sign posts  :D )

Sign. Your. Comments! Dude, the ARG is not a video game! Read the article! Klow 21:07, May 16, 2011 (UTC)

OH THATS HOW I SIGN POSTS. Sorry bout that. I have portal: still alive for the xbox 360. Can I get portal ARG or not? 174.52.11.165 04:02, May 17, 2011 (UTC)

You can't. SiPlus 09:42, May 17, 2011 (UTC)
The ARG isnt a typical game, it was a Real Life series of puzzles and hidden messages to create an, as the name says, alternative reality. it cant be played, hell i was lucky enough to see the Potato ARG come to an end, i got to see the final countdown of GLaDOS@Home, and it was pretty awesome
So no, not a Video Game Drake3011 11:44, May 17, 2011 (UTC)
*Bangs head on keyboard* Klow 17:03, May 17, 2011 (UTC)
I lol'd. This is fantastic; I hope this is a troll, or my waning faith in the kids these days is justified. Obskura 18:56, May 17, 2011 (UTC)

So Portal ARG does not exist? 174.52.11.165 04:19, May 18, 2011 (UTC)

You'll get all your answers here. Klow 18:47, May 22, 2011 (UTC)

"Undetermined Instructions"[edit]

I realized what image 03386419.996\03864460.840 (square, triangle, and ball) is. My dad had to take a test involving this form once for a psychology exam. The full image includes a stick figure on one side. It's one of those "describe what you see" things, like a Rorschach test - it's a measure of creativity when shown an abstract concept.

Not sure what the name of the test is, but I've definitely seen it before. -64.206.238.155 15:36, July 12, 2011 (UTC)

Achievement[edit]

The achievement is still listed in the game, but I assume it is not longer "achievable" now that this event is over? I'm not clear on exactly how this works.... RS89 19:11, November 23, 2011 (UTC)
