Voices[edit]

Who Voices the Fisherman? He sounds a little like the head Hippie from the Futurama episode "The Birdbot of Ice-Catraz".

Interesting question. I looked around but I didn't find anything on the net, so I emailed Valve. Got a reply today. Bill Van Buren says the Fisherman was voiced by Jim French, who also voiced Father Grigori.[1] --MattyDienhoff 01:57, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

Cut Content?[edit]

Wasn't the fisherman made especially for Lost Coast? Why is he considered cut content?--Shadgrimgrvy 01:33, 6 September 2009 (UTC)

Because LC was cut from the HL2 Coast levels. Klow 12:42, September 11, 2009 (UTC)

Totally Looks Like[edit]

Robert Mitchum. Compare: Fisherman, Mitchum. Same head and ears (but different eyes, and slightly different nose). — SheeEttin 06:06, October 9, 2010 (UTC)

Perhaps, but this is by no means confirmed. He probably looks similar to a lot of people :P Bramblepath 10:13, October 9, 2010 (UTC)
It's stunning how un-alike they look. SteveZombie 14:25, December 14, 2010 (UTC)

I doubt the "no photo reference" part.[edit]

I found a 3dsk stock photo and the eye wrinkles on the left side looks exactly like the fishermans, https://www.3d.sk/photos/show/id/41553

The article the statement is sourced from is pretty clear that the "photo references" in question for the characters are these head shots of actual people that the resulting in-game facial likenesses were based on, and unless you're suggesting otherwise, there's no real world individual that the Fisherman's appearance was similarly patterned off of. As described, he was designed and sketched out from scratch, and we have some of this concept art in the article already that illustrates this. That no photo reference was used for the Fisherman's facial appearance does not preclude the use of photo sources (including specific parts of people, i.e. skin, hair, clothes, etc.) to create the actual textures that compose him, a practice that greatly applies even to Lost Coast's own props that the aforementioned production pipeline refers to.
