The Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System (GLaDOS) is an artificial intelligence created by Aperture Science for their Enrichment Center. The system's numerous duties include overseeing the construction of new facilities and the maintenance of existing ones, such as the monitoring of desert bar supply levels. However, her primary duty is the administration of tests to the facility's test subjects, a duty she performs with the utmost joy and often at the expense of her other tasks.
Unfortunately, the system also possessed extreme homicidal tendencies. When GLaDOS was first activated, she released deadly neurotoxins, killing nearly everyone in the facility. Survivors were captured and used as test subjects and baking ingredients. Initial theories suggested this was due to a software error, but the rapid death of all investigators has prevented the theory from being proven.
