Brush Models

How do you extract Brush Models? And where I can find them? SIERRA 23 03:40, January 29, 2011 (UTC)

Since I never was able to decompile GoldSrc maps, I used the HL: Source maps that I decompiled in Hammer. Then I built a quick hollow cuboid with a white texture and I copy/paste the needed brushes inside to screenshot them. So, except a couple, all GoldSrc brushes with a white background are from HLS. I did the same for several Source brushes, notably those from the HL2 Beta. That's about it. Klow 10:31, January 29, 2011 (UTC)
Couldn't you reextract Bradley again and paint it with unused green textures (without number "2") to upload screenshot to Wiki? My HLS is bugged. >SiPlus -talk -contributions_ 11:36, January 29, 2011 (UTC)

Wiki dies without you

Please, come back to OverWiki! It dies without you, Klow! Example: Console commands - just copied from underground gaming website, and, we are not Valve Developer Community. >SiPlus -talk -contributions_ 11:35, January 29, 2011 (UTC)

I know. I'm sorry... We'll see when P2 comes out. Klow 15:42, January 31, 2011 (UTC)

LD and HD deathmatch models

Should we put low-quality deathmatch models into "Game models" column and high-quality DM models into "HD game models" column of Black Mesa Security Force and Black Mesa Science Team models lists? Or HD game models column is only for Half-Life High Definition Pack models?

Wrong info about Breen

Why is it implied here that Breen is now an Advisor? Not only is it annoying to read but it's also completely wrong. First, he's most likely dead since the whole thing exploded (Gordon survived thanks to G-Man and Alyx thanks to the Vorts). Second, it's not possible for him to have transformed in to anything since the whole teleportation to the Combine world failed, he needed the host body there cause of the environment. Third, just because he mentioned a 'host body' doesn't mean he meant becomming an Advisor, a host body can be many things.

314 URB-LOC 0017 is not Breen as implied here but the Advisor Breen was seen talking to at the end of HL2. I know it's said here as well but I feel it's in the shadow of the Advisor being Breen theory. — Unsigned comment by 85.165.184.151

Thanks for the greetings, I can help edit pages here, but due to your protection for these pages, I can't do it right. so if you need help in Half-Life (original only, not HL2 or modern), just ask me. CS Specialist 11:19, February 28, 2011 (UTC)

New to Editing

Hello, I found something I thought was interesting on a site, but I dont know where I would put it. This is the first time I've had an account on a "wiki" type of site. Could you let me know if I'm writing this the right way, where I could write about the thing I found, and if I correctly wrote my signiture? --- Ridgerunner99 18:47, February 28, 2011 (UTC)

So far so good, except for the word "signature" incorrectly spelled. ;) So, what do you want to add?... Klow 19:35, February 28, 2011 (UTC)

Wiki activity

Bring back Wiki Activity button. The Recent Changes thing is very hard to read, is a duplicate of the button in Tools menu, and, you directly violated the Wikia customization rules ("Not intentionally block, remove, or otherwise obstruct the proper functioning and view of advertisements, and/or user interface and functionality by other users, including but not limited to changing or adding javascript or CSS changes to the Service that would prevent the proper display or function of advertisements and/or user interface and functionality"). SiPlus 09:06, March 22, 2011 (UTC)

I found and reverted the script because I want to keep wiki alive. And, a small note: if you want to add something you need and other people don't, add it for yourself, and not for everyone. Just make User:Klow/Global.js or User:Know/Common.js. SiPlus 11:59, March 22, 2011 (UTC)

Subtitles

How about adding (or copying from Valve's channel) subtitles to the videos on our YT channel? SiPlus 13:46, March 28, 2011 (UTC)

Dude wtf?

What was the point in deleting my image of ATLAS and P-Body and reuploading the same image? I had already uploaded that until you deleted it. Bpc908 02:41, April 1, 2011 (UTC)

It's slightly different, and I used JPG instead of PNG, which is more suitable. I also renamed it, so that we always use that file for the infobox. Does it really matter?... Klow 07:44, April 1, 2011 (UTC)
It does matter, because it really irks me that you take credit for an Image that I took my time to edit and get from an Hq Trailer and you go off and take credit for putting the image up.Just saying bpc908 23:46, April 2, 2011 (UTC)
Bcp908, you don't have any rights to this image and don't own it. Valve and EA are the only owners and credit holders. And, it's not hard to crop a screenshot of commercial. SiPlus 06:50, April 3, 2011 (UTC)
Here we all take a huge amount of time to do what we do, you know; you have no idea how many screenshots I took and cropped and uploaded here... With the wiki system, in a few seconds all you did may be partially or fully altered by another user. This is how a wiki goes. This can be very frustrating, but that's how it is; every user goes through that. Don't be mad about it, and don't take it personally. The credit to me will only be seen if people take time to search who uploaded it, and few users do. All the time I see our pics on YouTube or forums, and 99% or people seeing them or even sometimes uploading them have no idea where they come from and who made them. That can irk me as well, but as I said, that's how it is. And please use the four "~" to sign. ;) Klow 09:34, April 3, 2011 (UTC)

Background

Hello, I would like to know why you put a picture of Masterchief as the background. It makes it harder to read the text. Thank you--(;,;) 11:27, April 1, 2011 (UTC)

Look, SoI has a point. Masterchief (Who the heck is he?) is Halo related. Not Half-life. and he's really, REALLY opressive. Can you get rid if him? I want to read the text. 81.159.186.235 15:45, April 1, 2011 (UTC)

What? I can't read well sorry. You don't like Master Chief? I does! Klow 18:49, April 1, 2011 (UTC)
I know what they mean. I don't like having to mouseover everything so I can read it. Next year, just replace Gordon's infobox picture with Jesus, or something like that.
The whole point of the April Fools' Day is to prank and annoy people, that picture was the purpose. You should have been here last year, I think you'd have gone nuts. Klow 08:11, April 2, 2011 (UTC)

Portal 2 highlight on front page?

Hey Klow, my name is Tae and I am the new content manager for the gaming vertical. I wanted to touch base and see if you guys had any plans on promoting Portal 2's impending launch on the main site? We thought a countdown clock or some sort of notice would help draw more people and get them excited for the game.

Also, just wanted to put it out there if you ever need anything from me, let me know. You guys are doing a terrific job of making the wiki look great, but I can help in other areas, like getting you access to Valve and the developers and the like. tae<staff /> (talk) 22:52, April 4, 2011 (UTC)

Hello there! I've been thinking about a countdown, but I never really tried to implement it. I'd say why not, it's never too late... Currently the promotions are emphasizing on Portal-related featured articles (and improving, expanding and fixing them, since many need it). I updated the wiki background with a related image, and the Portal teaser trailer has been on the main page since June 2010. I don't know what else I could do... Facebook (our page and that of Aperture Science, to which we are connected), Steam and YouTube also draw many people.
Thanks for the compliments about our work. I just came back from a 6 months wiki vacation, and unfortunately the wiki felt it.
And about Valve? I know they know we exist, that some of them have been here, that some like the wiki, but apart from that, they never really helped us directly or gave us exclusive information. I would love that, but I rarely get any answers from them... What are the options on that end? Klow 23:07, April 4, 2011 (UTC)
I have contacts at Valve that I can reach out to. I'm assuming you guys get info from various sources and add them to the wiki after the fact; what I'm trying to do is get Wikia added to various press mailing lists so that we get the information at the same as the major press outlets. That way, we can be right on top of things. I'll reach out to Valve and try to make that happen. Then in the future, we can investigate things like getting access to members of the development team, maybe for things like interviews and such. If you can think of anything that you might want or would love to have, shoot me an email (tae at wikia dash inc dot com) or leave me a message on my talk page and I'll see what I can do.
And if you need any help implementing that countdown clock or anything else you and the other admins want to do, let me know and the content team will do what they can to help.
tae<staff /> (talk) 23:17, April 4, 2011 (UTC)
Ok then! And as for the countdown, I have no idea how to do it, so it's all up to you... Klow 23:21, April 4, 2011 (UTC)

Countdown is up. Also, what do you think about maybe adding a Portal 2-centric content box above the "main categories" one on the main page? At least for now, it would make it easier for people to look for Portal 2 content (and people looking for that will likely be the majority of readers for a while). Ausir(talk) <staff /> 23:43, April 4, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the countdown, Ausir. About the Portal 2-centric content box, I'll see if this is possible and how to do it properly. Klow 00:07, April 5, 2011 (UTC)
Klow, sorry to bombard you with stuff, but would you mind sending me an email? Got something I want to talk to you and the other admins about. It's a fairly cool idea. Hate to be hush hush but it's a surprise thing and I want to get the opinions of you and the other admins. tae<staff /> (talk) 00:34, April 5, 2011 (UTC)
Sure. Klow 00:50, April 5, 2011 (UTC)
I want to hear this ASAP. Don't be keeping it secret for too long lol.--YabbaMyIcingTalk 02:04, April 5, 2011 (UTC)

Small correction

Hi there. I'm just dropping in with a tiny correction suggestion. On the page for Judith Mossman, under the headline "Appearances", the last sentence in the second paragraph reads: "Only after an intense firefight with Combine troops are Gordon and Alyx able to use the teleport to escape to Kleiner's Lab, their original destination." The "teleport" should be "teleporter" I believe. Thanks. — Unsigned comment by 68.102.90.242

Don't forget to sign! Actually no, the word "teleport" is used throughout the games. "Teleporter" is correct but we tend to use "teleport". Klow 10:42, April 5, 2011 (UTC)
Sorry for not signing; I'm new to Wikia and forgot. The only reason I brought it up is because the sentence preceding it uses the word "teleporter" so I figured for consistency you might want the following sentence to use it, too. But I understand what you're saying and appreciate you explaining it for me. Thanks. Sethlore 18:49, April 5, 2011 (UTC)
Well the best thing would be to replace all "teleporter" instances by "teleport", but it's not a big deal since in some cases it may add variation to the text. Klow 12:18, April 10, 2011 (UTC)

Contest page in the main namespace?

Hey man, just wanted to give you and the other admins a head's up on a sweet contest we're planning around Portal 2. We are going to be giving away copies of the game plus plus Weighted Companion Cubes to go along with the other initiative that we discussed already. It's our way of giving the community a chance to win some really cool stuff. Anyway, our marketing manager is asking if it would be okay for us to put a contest page in the main namespace. We're trying to figure out where to put the contest page to get the most visibility and publicity for it, and she thinks this would be the best place for it. What do you think? tae<staff /> (talk) 22:15, April 12, 2011 (UTC)

Tae, personally I think placing contest in the main namespace is flooding, better use OverWiki: namespace. SiPlus 09:45, April 13, 2011 (UTC)
Indeed the OverWiki namespace is fine, and logical. I don't see why it should be in the main namespace as long as it is properly showcased on the main page!... Klow 10:27, April 13, 2011 (UTC)
I took your suggestion to our marketing manager and this is what she had to say: "Unfortunately, they don't have comments enabled, and that's how we would gather entries, so the other option is to go with a blog. Would it be possible to have a blog post highlighted on the main page with a cool medrec (medium rectangle on the right rail) that we will take down as soon as the contest ends?" What do you guys think about that idea? We totally respect your concerns about messing with the page, but we think the giveaway is pretty cool, and we think advertising it on the wiki will turn it from a Wikia giveaway to a joint venture between us and the Combine OverWiki. Part of this is to reward the community but part of it is to attract new people to it as well, so having you guys take an active part is important. Please let me know what you guys think. tae<staff /> (talk) 17:41, April 13, 2011 (UTC)
Well, go ahead, let's see what it looks like. Klow 19:48, April 13, 2011 (UTC)

Main page heads up

Hi Klow. Just giving you a heads up that the Portal 2 Giveaway is now live, so I just added a notice for it to the right column of the main page, using the same styling (HeadingB). I'll take it down on the 29th after the giveaway has ended. Cheers. JoePlay http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb33036/wikia/images/e/e9/WikiaStaff.png (talk) 00:03, April 14, 2011 (UTC)

Looks fine, thanks! I tweaked it a bit, though. ;) Klow 16:31, April 15, 2011 (UTC)

You ban him, then post the same exact picture once again under your name "Klow." I've been looking around for an explanation and lo behold I find this shit-stain of an excuse.

If it fucking irks you don't do it to someone else, and don't ban someone for a false reason. Vandalism? Hardly. I await your response and a proper argument and reason as to why the ban happened, why you decided to repost his picture, and why you are so stupid. A nice thing to do to be the man in this would be to replace the non-existent pic (as of now) with this: http://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/File:Char_cave.jpg

Hey kids, will you stop whining all the time? I provided an explanation on Cave Johnson's talk page. And no need to upload the pic again, twice. Klow 02:10, April 16, 2011 (UTC)

The combine guard is killable

I can get legit proof if you need it. I don't understand why you removed that information from the article. — Unsigned comment by 72.201.97.245

Please, please! Sign your comments! Ok then, if you say so. But I was under the impression it was not possible. My mistake. Klow 02:45, April 16, 2011 (UTC)

Well Considering the fact that The Combine Gaurd was Only used in a few buggy scenes in the beta and was not Supposed to be killed and as far as im aware didnt even have a half decent atacking animation i am also under the impresion it is Un-killable so please i would actually like to see the proof you are talking about Deadlycrowbarofdoom 02:49, May 15, 2011 (UTC)

My mistake

Just seemed inconsistent, is all. The overview for those articles was somewhat disjointed as bullet points, and a bit hard to read. Compared to ones like Snark or Long Fall Boot, which are much easier to read through, it felt like they'd just been tacked together. — Trust not the Penguin (T | C) 03:45, April 16, 2011 (UTC)

Well it's sometimes easier to separate unrelated pieces of information with those bullets... That clearly segments each element. You think bullets makes reading harder?... And the 2 examples you give need a lot of work, btw, so they are not very good examples... :/ Klow 03:51, April 16, 2011 (UTC)
That's the good thing about wikis, it can be changed ad infinitum. You do have a point about the bullets, but it's generally not something you want when you're trying to give an overview, hence why I changed it. It's good for trivia and behind the scenes stuff, but in an overview it just makes it harder to get the point across. — Trust not the Penguin (T | C) 04:05, April 16, 2011 (UTC)

RE: Need your input

Hey. I'm afraid I can't contact you on Steam, as my laptop is in a desperate state of disrepair and I'm being forced to use another, inferior one until my own is fixed. If you need to contact me, it'll have to be here on the wiki. - Halo-343 20:37, April 16, 2011 (UTC)

You're not using any IM program?... Klow 20:38, April 16, 2011 (UTC)
No, I'm not using one of those things that I know I exactly what you're talking about. - Halo-343 20:46, April 16, 2011 (UTC)
Too bad, that would have been convenient to get more organized. What have you been working on on the wiki, and what are your plans?... Klow 20:49, April 16, 2011 (UTC)
Recently I've just been updating and cleaning Portal-related pages when I can, but haven't done as much lately on account of my broken laptop. Although as soon as I've completed and enjoyed Portal 2, expect me to be pushing forward on all the new information. - Halo-343 20:58, April 16, 2011 (UTC)
Good! As for me, I'm catching up with my watchlist (dunno if I explained you), but I give more attention to the Portal related ones. For instance I improved and cleaned up so far Cave, Rattman, Atlas and P-body. Aperture Science and Labs are ok, but they will need expansion when P2 is out. I still have to cleanup Glados and Chell, and make sure the Lab Rat information fits the rest. Could you review Rattman? I just finished. Klow 21:38, April 16, 2011 (UTC)
Just looked over Rattmann, and it's looking great, actually. I just a few minor edits, but otherwise it's good. With a bit more refinement, it could even be a featured article. EDIT: As I've belatedly learned, it is. Good job. - Halo-343 13:15, April 17, 2011 (UTC)

Thank you

I've been avoiding the ones with the bullets, though. — Trust not the Penguin (T | C) 00:26, April 17, 2011 (UTC)

Lol. Hey, feel free to submit me any article you think is fixed! Klow 00:38, April 17, 2011 (UTC)
Barn Advisor, Lamarr, and 314 URB-LOC 0017 Advisor are at least somewhat better, though Lamarr would use some work. — Trust not the Penguin (T | C) 00:44, April 17, 2011 (UTC)
Nice! But while "somewhat better" is great, that's not enough! :P And did you check they follow the layout guide? Klow 01:02, April 17, 2011 (UTC)

File help

I've uploaded an image to use in the Aperture Science Sentry Turret article, but somehow I forgot to set a title field, so it set the title to my computer's screenshot naming garglemesh (File:Screen shot 2011-04-17 at 8.42.20 AM.png). Can you help a newbie out by changing the name to something that actually makes sense? Like "Sentry Gun Diagram" or something? Thanks. Aruscio 13:05, April 17, 2011 (UTC)

Clicking on images

Hey I have seen that clicking on images works as regular link to the file page on this wiki. I wondered if this is a certain script you have on your wiki, or if this is something set by Wikia. On the Runescape wiki we have lightboxes some users don't like, but they do want to stick with the Wikia skin. If this is a script that removes the lightboxes, could you please link me to it or post it on my talk? I'd like to use it in my personal JS file on other wikis. "Portal 2" Template

Portal 2 has been released now. It seems stupid to still have the "Furthermore since Portal 2 has not yet been released..." part of the template, and there is in fact almost no reason whatsoever to use it. — Unsigned comment by OrangeParka

Please sign your comments. ;) You are right, I'll have our bot replace them by the spoiler template. Klow 17:49, April 24, 2011 (UTC)

Ask a silly question...

Well, either I'm some kind of bi-polar troll who alternates between messing with the Wiki and making helpful alterations (such as adding new redirects, which I think anyone would admit are useful), or I genuinely have good intentions and think all the changes I've made are for the best. Which seems more likely to you, friend? :) Sarcasm aside, I meant no harm with any of my edits, and I apologize for any perception of trolling. For example, I added several empty line breaks to a number of pages, such as Prospero, because in the MonoBook appearance setting, which I use, the first line of text on those pages would begin immediately after the template banners at the top, up in the top right corner of the screen, making the pages look cramped and unprofessional. Adding those spaces moved the text down beneath the banners, the way it's meant to appear. Actually, I'm not sure why they didn't go back to looking like it originally did after the spaces were removed. Most unusual. Captain J 21:10, April 24, 2011 (UTC)

Re: Images

Sorry about that. I was unaware that the information was needed. I am a Janitor on the Left 4 Dead wiki as well as a major contributor (note, my avatar pic) and we don't require that for our images. what would you like to have me do? Use that information template? Please let me know.

Thanks --06abrahb 04:47, April 26, 2011 (UTC)

I see. Do you see the big text when you upload? Or maybe you use a system that prevents you from seeing it? Klow 07:22, April 26, 2011 (UTC)

Turret opera

Could you please add a comment on the talk page as to what exactly you feel needs to be cleaned up? Simply putting the tag up and leaving the article isn't particularly helpful.

Thanks, HawkeyE 22:35, April 26, 2011 (UTC)

This is how we work here. to cleanup by default until it has been reviewed by an admin. I know it may seem weird, but that's how it is... Klow 23:45, April 26, 2011 (UTC)
Ah, its more that it has yet to be reviewed, then? So the tag serves more as a notice for editors to fine-tune the article and then submit it to an admin for approval rather than a statement that the article is unsatisfactory? -HawkeyE 04:45, April 27, 2011 (UTC)

RE: Core Transfer Receptacle

Hey, yes i based it on the dialog from the game. The Aperture Science Announcement System says the following: "To initiate a core transfer, please deposit substitute core in receptacle." therefore i based it on that as well as the little gameplay knowledge we know. Also you never explained yet the situation with my images, what do you need from me on that? --06abrahb 04:27, April 27, 2011 (UTC)

This is what I thought. Cheers. Klow 12:44, April 27, 2011 (UTC)

Create page dialog message

Hi Klow,

We noticed that you adjusted the create page interface here and it no longer allows users to choose between the standard and blank page. This is a part of the basic functionality of the site - so can you please return that option? I also noticed the message there may be a bit harsh for new users. I know that it can be tricky dealing with folks who might not know how to fully use wikia -- but giving them a long discouraging message saying their page could be deleted is not very welcoming. If you shorten the note (maybe keep one link to your policies), it will be more welcoming to new folks -- and probably a bit clearer. Having a long note with lots of links can be confusing when you are just starting a new page. If you need any help or advice with this, just let me know and I am more than happy to help. Thanks, Sarah<staff /> (help forum | blog) 16:53, April 28, 2011 (UTC)

To Sarah (I'm not Klow): this "basic functionality" is not needed on the site, because the "format" (standard) layout contains only "remove this line" text. I am not going to bring back the selection. I also asked Wikia staff using Special:Contact to completely remove "format" layout from this wiki, because it's boring to remove the line every new page or category, and CreatePage.pageLayout='blank' and CreatePage.options.format.submitUrl='/index.php?title=$1&action=edit' don't seem to work properly, or maybe I set them at wrong time. Pressure Plates

Well, I heard it from a random player on an IGN footage. It was only until sometime after I created the article that I realized that "Pressure Plate" really wasn't such an accurate name, especially since it was coming from the guy in that video who referred to the storage cubes as "bricks".

I'd love it if someone could give the proper name for the "pressure plate". It would have been "Storage cube receptacle", but that along with "Pressure plate" are still conjectural. McFlurryMax 04:14, May 1, 2011 (UTC)

Template: Hello!

Yeah, I was just wondering if I have permission to post my own templates on articles. P2 cake pic....

I'm a newbie trying very hard to get it right.... Being ignorant, I uploaded the portal 2 cake door pic via the 'add image to this gallery' button, where there isn't an info template warning. I tried to fix that later by uploading a new version with a template - I thought I'd gotten it right, but I guess I didn't. (I looked at another image's info template for reference.) I know I goofed. (I can't get the image name to change either - and I have been searching the help section.) I really have no idea how to fix it. A little help from anyone? Please? E gal 00:46, May 2, 2011 (UTC)

Pages for DLC items?

Should I create pages for all the DLC items you can get from the store? I have some of the hats, and could try to get some pictures of the others. We could look to the TF2 Wiki for an example of how to make the pages. — Unsigned comment by OrangeParka

Please please my friend, sign your comments, I can't guess who's talking. So indeed yeah, a page similar to an Achievement page (I mean with a wikitable) listing all the available stuff should do it. Klow 20:14, May 4, 2011 (UTC)

Help with Aperture Science Material Emancipation Grid Article

I undid Fyrisvellir about an hour ago because he changed the article to state, as fact, that grid is a misspelling. What I didn't anticipate was that he would take this insultingly. I still pertain that no matter what he says, he's still assuming it is a mistake. He could point out every obvious spelling error, and not get me to believe two similar words can be a spelling error and not just an older name for it or something. We need administrator intervention, he will not accept compromise and I am starting to lose my temper about this. If you say I'm wrong, I'll accept that as you know your way around this Wiki. But his tone has been far too unruly for me. Again, as I said to him, Wikis can't use assumption as fact. At most, he should say "possibly a misspelling," but you know this... ~ɠą§ɔîéɳčę { talk } 21:34, May 19, 2011 (UTC)

Help with Overflowing Images on File Pages

One of the updates a while back messed up the thumbnail images of File Pages. They'd always expand over the right side bar and are very obstructive. An example of this is here. At BioShock Wiki, Gardimuer applied a simple fix for this, found below:

.ns-6 #file img {
  height: auto;
  max-width: 100%;
}

It might not work on all browsers, but it definitely helps. ~ɠą§ɔîéɳčę { talk } 02:17, May 20, 2011 (UTC)

Seems to work, for me at least. Most new browsers support max-width I think. Bramblepath 15:10, May 21, 2011 (UTC)

Dude wtf? ~ Part two

I'd just like to inform you that the PNG file extension has a higher quality than the JPG file extension, and that I do not appreciate you removing an image that I, or anyone for that matter, has uploaded, decreasing it's overall quality (sure it lowers filesize, but still... why?), and reuploading it. It seems like a really underhanded way of contributing to the wiki; but then again, maybe it's better this way. I mean, most of the characters on here use in-game screenshots for their images, most of which I'm sure were originally taken on different computers, by different users, and thus, with varying degrees of detail. The TF2 Wiki, part of the so called "Wiki Network" you have going on, at least uses the model view (included with the Source SDK) to obtain higher quality, consistent, and most importantly, isolated screenshots of the characters, weapons, and items found in the game. I would love to see a reason for why exactly you feel it's necessary for every image on this wiki to have your name plastered on it; however, I don't want you to waste your time replying to this. I'm sure it can be better spent reuploading images and files unnecessarily. Snyphurr 19:01, May 22, 2011 (UTC)

Slight misunderstanding here. Again, it has nothing to do with my name. JPG is preferred for large images. Think about users with slow connections, large PNGs take forever to load for them. JPG is overall preferred on the web, unless the pictures have transparency, in which case PNG is preferred (we also use PNG for any texture image extracted for the game files). I know PNG has a better quality, but the higher quality the slower image load (I personally always take my screenshots as PNG, then convert them to JPG with the lowest compression, since Steam or Fraps compress too much JPGs). Plus the pic I uploaded was directly extracted from the Final Hours files, and thus didn't have the close button on the upper right - it was just uploaded as is, without any editing, and its full size. And you can see other pics by other users on the wiki that I didn't replace by my versions, because they already were in the proper format. There you go. But I'm not sure what you mean with the character images, are you referring to their infobox images?... Most characters have a picture of their models in their gallery; we prefer an infobox picture of them into a context, which brings more life to them, and which is not necessary for enemies or weapons, since they have no solid context. Could you give me a screenshot of where you clicked? That would really help the wiki. Klow 23:43, May 23, 2011 (UTC)
When you edit a page, click "insert a gallery or slideshow" button, then "create a gallery", then click "add images", it will show you recent images that have been uploaded but with me, i clicked "Upload file". Then it takes you to the next screen where you can insert a caption or link address. Then that's it, you can either add more to the gallery or finish editing it but it never asks about file information or copyright licencing. I had to manually edit the image files themselves. Hopefully this helps. If you still have questions, i can try and send you some screenshots. --06abrahb 23:55, May 23, 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, I see now. Klow 16:44, May 24, 2011 (UTC)

About Test Track article titles

I noticed you made Wheatley's testing track and GLaDOS's old testing track recently. I have a problem with those titles: they look so informal to me. I asked SiPlus if it would be better to rename them something like Testing Track (Wheatley) and Testing Track (GLaDOS; Portal) or something similar, but he said no. Are you sure those names are permanent?

One more thing: You banned the IP responsible for this vandalism? ~ɠą§ɔîéɳčę { talk } 19:49, May 24, 2011 (UTC)

He is blocked. As for the testing tracks, I don't know. It's hard not to use informal names for those, since we don't have any official names. What's wrong with the current names?... :/ Klow 19:57, May 24, 2011 (UTC)
Ah, you respond here. What I find wrong is the way the names are stated seems such an informal form - like if you were to try and describe it to some friend passively. I'd prefer something more official sounding, even if we don't have anything truly official.
Also, about the Youtube template: I copied the trivia straight from the page before you fixed that. I didn't do it... I don't think... ~ɠą§ɔîéɳčę { talk } 23:00, May 24, 2011 (UTC)
Unfortunately, you copied a mistake... :/ And I always respond here, as stated above. But how exactly would you differentiate the old and new GLaDOS tracks? "Testing Track (GLaDOS; Portal)" seems weird. Klow 23:08, May 24, 2011 (UTC)
Testing Track (GLaDOS; Portal) and Testing Track (GLaDOS; Portal 2) is just one idea. I just don't think a wiki should give an article such an informal title if it can be avoided. Maybe Portal GLaDOS Testing Track and Portal 2 GLaDOS Testing Track. But the lower case, conversation phrased title just doesn't seem suitable to me.
Of course, I'm just one user. You don't have to listen to me, I understand. ~ɠą§ɔîéɳčę { talk } 23:13, May 24, 2011 (UTC)
I more or less see your point, but your titles seem overcomplicating it. What could be made maybe could be having "Wheatley's Testing Track" instead of "testing track", but apart from that. These titles are quite simple, should we complicate them for the sake of looking more formal?... Klow 00:03, May 25, 2011 (UTC)
What bothers me most is calling the tracks for GLaDOS "old" and "new" instead of "Portal" and "Portal 2." When I first read that, the first thing that crossed my mind was "Innovators track... by GLaDOS?" It was a bit confusing. Besides that, having consistent titles would be nice, so that's why I gave such a format. ~ɠą§ɔîéɳčę { talk } 00:35, May 25, 2011 (UTC)
Well, for Chell as for us the P1 testing tracks are now "old", and Wheatley actually refers to them that way at the start of the game: Okay, almost there. On the other side of that wall is one of the old testing tracks. There's a piece of equipment in there we're gonna need to get out of here. I think this is a docking station. Get ready... But I can understand the possible confusion with the Enrichment Shafts, which are older than both GLaDOS's tracks. So I guess you're right. So how about GLaDOS's Testing Track (Portal) and GLaDOS's Testing Track (Portal 2)? That seems better than with the weird commas. Although we rarely use out-universe terms for in-universe subjects, hence renaming back then Crossbow (HL1) to Black Mesa Crossbow, and HL2 to Resistance. Oh, well. Klow 00:44, May 25, 2011 (UTC)

Re: Your Userpage...

Thank you. I had to drop a lot of features from my BioShock Wiki version to work here (I use a lot of user templates there to make it... fancy). It is funny how I only realized I had forgotten how I made some of it when I tried to port it over here. And its too bad Shared Templates only work from Community Wiki-to-Wikis, and not from Wiki-to-Wiki, or I'd be able to manage both userpages much more easily (Put sections in templates, edit it at BioShock Wiki and it would). But I can still hyperlink there, so I changed up those links and such.

Thinking about it now, it might just be better to make up a mostly new userpage here so you can't look between the two and go "That one is sooo outdated," although some parts would inevitably be that way. ~ɠą§ɔîéɳčę { talk } 23:52, May 24, 2011 (UTC)

Indeed that's not always easy to have a page always up-to-date. On an unrelated note, did you check OverWiki:Projects/Portal?... Klow 23:58, May 24, 2011 (UTC)
I saw you make it, as well as making many edits, although I didn't actually check. Nice work with the tables and such, although I usually have a hard time thinking in such a way. My only real question at this moment is: Do you want me to unlink all the ✓/✔ and ✕/✖/✗/✘ marks in the charts? ~ɠą§ɔîéɳčę { talk } 00:12, May 25, 2011 (UTC)
Good idea, done. Also, check my answer for the testing track names. Klow 00:19, May 25, 2011 (UTC)
Ya, I also realized after a bit I, myself, couldn't do it. I always forget that. ~ɠą§ɔîéɳčę { talk } 00:35, May 25, 2011 (UTC)

Hey Klow. You asked me about File:Chell-exit.jpg and where I clicked to add the file to the Chell article.

I may have misunderstood your question, but here's my answer.

I simply clicked the "Add a picture to this gallery"-button below the section in which I put the pic.

I got the picture from one of the commercials for Portal 2, post-release that is.

Let me know if you have further questions. Or if i totally misunderstood your first one. (HaggisHaglund 19:59, May 25, 2011 (UTC))

Vandalism

IP 187.3.40.184 left this vandalism.

IP 202.45.119.26 Did a ton of vandalism to the Portal 2 page, and then tried to hide it by undoing it. Might do more, too. Part of it appears here: http://half-life.wikia.com/index.php?title=Portal_2&action=historysubmit&diff=199699&oldid=199398

I hate IP editors so much. They might be back. ~ɠą§ɔîéɳčę { talk } 00:18, May 26, 2011 (UTC)

I appointed you rollback, so that you can revert vandalism in one click. For instance, just click "rollback" at the last of several vandalism edits by a user (in an article's history page), and they will all be reverted in one stroke, and automatically saved. Klow 08:47, May 26, 2011 (UTC)
Ah, so you did tell me you did it. I always forget to check your talk page, I'm so used to the little "New Message!" warning telling me to look. Too bad Rollback doesn't work with badly done correction wars, like when an IP does multiple edits and then someone else only undoes the last one. Then you have to do manual rollback. ~ɠą§ɔîéɳčę { talk } 22:40, June 5, 2011 (UTC)

I am a fail

Hey, it's everyone's favorite n00b (I'm probably not)., May 28, 2011 (UTC) Just a quick question: how do you request for a new article to be created? I ask because I have an idea for an article but am not good at making articles. Thanks! (P.S. I'll try to avoid going to you for every question, but I couldn't find this in any of the help sites.)Smelltheashes 04:23, May 29, 2011 (UTC)

Smelltheashes, either go to main page and press "Add a page" on the top or press "Add a page" in the sidebar on any article. SiPlus 06:45, May 29, 2011 (UTC)
But I'm not trying to create a new article, I'm trying to publicly suggest a certain article be created. Like I said, I am not good with making articles. Smelltheashes 07:33, May 29, 2011 (UTC)
Why don't you tell us right away what article you'd like to be created?... Klow 10:42, May 29, 2011 (UTC)
Neurotoxin. I think that it alone has enough significance in the Portal storyline that it alone deserves its own article: it's GLaDOS' major weapon, it's what killed almost all of the facility workers, and GLaDOS continually mentions it. I don't know, I think it could work. But I also want this to be public, as a sort of request. Meh, I guess it doesn't matter that much. Smelltheashes 14:16, May 29, 2011 (UTC)

Chell's pic

I don't want to be rude.

But the hell did you remove my picture for? It was perfectly fine. (The one of Chell's science project.) I get that you're an admin-dude that is almost Cave Johnson. D:

--DadAreYouSpace 18:20, May 30, 2011 (UTC)

I'm not the one who deleted it, SiPlus did. I actually uploaded all 7 experiment pics under their original names, and yours was deleted instead of being renamed. So, to avoid you being upset about your file being deleted in the process, I've been kind enough to restore your pic and rename it, deleting mine in the process, because I don't care about having my name under all these 7 experiment images made by someone else. However I had to reupload it cropped so that it matches the other images (so it was not really "fine"). And we usually delete old versions of images (like it is the case on many wikis, in case you were wondering), so despite the very complicated actions I just made, your name will eventually not be seen in the file history, unless you download and reupload the images I cropped to be the last uploader. So overall this was a very complicated process for pretty much nothing. Authoring images we didn't even made is really trivial, isn't it? Let's not waste each other's time on this and let's improve the wiki instead. I hope you are not even more upset and will not cease editing just for that! Klow 18:46, May 30, 2011 (UTC)

Yeah I'd go for people who made huge contributions. Start by creating the ones I suggested, then we'll see! Good job, sir! Klow 00:13, May 31, 2011 (UTC)

Central Core Room

It's not really a real name. But it is more official than "GLaDOS' Chamber". Maybe we should add a conjectural notification tag to the article? McFlurryMax 00:08, May 31, 2011 (UTC)

This is a bit too precise and eccentric for a conjecture name. When is GLaDOS referred to as "Central Core"?... Klow 00:11, May 31, 2011 (UTC)
Ah, I didn't name it. I saw you talking with McFlurryMax, so I didn't argue the change. I was actually thinking of adding a merge template with GLaDOS' Chamber until I noticed it was a name change. Anyway, I think what might be best is if someone more versed in Portal canon and such looks up any occurrences of a room name. Until then, maybe Core Room. But we shouldn't keep changing it, so... might as well leave it until we can get a definite name. ~ɠą§ɔîéɳčę { talk } 17:51, May 31, 2011 (UTC)
Oops I got confused in who did what. I'm versed in Portal, and if there was I name, I'd know it. I'll do more research. Klow 18:16, May 31, 2011 (UTC)
I had the idea that a name might have been mentioned somewhere before, although it's much more likely none has been given. Just hoping there might be one somewhere... Announcer chatter? ~ɠą§ɔîéɳčę { talk } 19:27, May 31, 2011 (UTC)
All I've found that can lead to it's name may be the Announcer instructing the player to return to the "Central Core Bay" after pressing the stalemate button, which was why I named it into "Central Core Room". And plus, a lot of elements relating to GLaDOS are always named "Central Core", such as "Central Core manual", "Central Core bay", "Central Core replacement", etc. Could it be possible we can still use Central Core Room? And it would be a better way to describe GLaDOS than just a "sentient A.I.", since almost everything in Aperture has a mind of it's own. So that would mean GLaDOS is an A.I. under the category of the Central Core. ~McFlurryMax 01:02, June 3, 2011 (UTC)
I agree with naming this to the Central Core Room. Since any core can be in Gladdy's body, it wouldn't be right to call it Glados's chamber instead of the Central Core Room. You wouldn't call the boss's office "Frank's Room", would you? Plus, since the sp tends to bring you back to the room, just in different states, its the central core room. McFlurryMax has a good reason as well.ADemonicLemon 01:22, June 3, 2011 (UTC)
I still haven't heard from your response. Can I rename the GLaDOS' chamber page back into Central Core Room? Many elements in the game refer to her as the Central Core, as I mentioned above. Thanks in advance. McFlurryMax 15:37, June 5, 2011 (UTC)
Ok go ahead, I'm fixing the links. Klow 15:54, June 5, 2011 (UTC)

Idea for Bot (User)Pages

I was thinking about the poster seen in Portal 2 and thought it would fit nice either onto either the userpage of or pages about bots. It is the one about paradoxes GLaDOS points out: http://i.imgur.com/l36ML.png Do you think this could be uploaded here and used in such a way? Or a direct version? It's a very trivial thing, you don't have to even consider it. I just think it would be a nice little addition, like our new logo. ~ɠą§ɔîéɳčę { talk } 02:49, May 31, 2011 (UTC)

Help with negative redirects

An IP changed "Test Shaft 09" to "Test Chamber 09," initiating me to look it up here to be sure. Where as the edit was correct, I was sent to the Portal storyline page. Upon checking What Links Here, I discovered we have many cases of old redirects to this article which should now redirect to Testing Tracks or some other page. Here is the link to the full listing of redirects: http://half-life.wikia.com/index.php?title=Special:WhatLinksHere/Portal_storyline&limit=500 Can this be fixed? I don't have time to now, nor do I know what way you'd wish this to be done.

Side note: Other messages left before this one. ~ɠą§ɔîéɳčę { talk } 04:28, May 31, 2011 (UTC)

Typically, each redirect such as Test Chamber 09 should link to a disambiguation page, since now there are 3 known Test Chamber 09. Then from the disambig page, each link should go to proper Testing Track article. Klow 07:38, May 31, 2011 (UTC)
The whole tree of articles for Testing Tracks & Chambers needs to be redone. The disambiguation page for Testing Tracks... forgot what it was called, but it is far too generic. Such a confusing process, and I'd rather not uproot anything in a process to fix it incorrectly... ~ɠą§ɔîéɳčę { talk } 16:48, May 31, 2011 (UTC)

I'm saying the whole system of Testing Chamber and Track pages needs to be redone to more clearly direct users to the correct pages. I also don't trust I can do the whole system myself, especially nearing the end of my school year and hopefully graduation. ~ɠą§ɔîéɳčę { talk } 19:27, May 31, 2011 (UTC)

Name of the "Fat Turret"

I was trying to edit some Sentry Turret articles and came upon the problem of what to call the "Fat Turret." We now have three names we use interchangeably. "Fat Turret" for its appearance and I believe some mention, "Soprano Turret" from the guide which has other errors, and "Turret Wife" which might be accepted due to filenames and official music names... I'd prefer to use Turret Wife in all cases except trivia on how its size indicates a Fat Lady singing, but I know that there's no direct statement of it's name to justify this... What's your opinion? ~ɠą§ɔîéɳčę { talk } 01:05, June 1, 2011 (UTC)

I'd really go for "Turret Wife" as much as possible, for the reasons you mentioned. Klow 09:10, June 2, 2011 (UTC)
Ah, I'd also have to contend with other editor's opinions. But again, I'd prefer Turret Wife. ~ɠą§ɔîéɳčę { talk } 09:21, June 2, 2011 (UTC)

Re: STF template

I did notice that page was using a table, which is also why I did not bother with it. It has no room for comments/trivia, and since all the other pages followed a different format, I decided to clean them up in the fashion I have. If I was to change this format to follow a table, how would we put the comments in? Some are actually important in some way, but I don't believe they will fit.

Also, to use a template, where do you think the Empty should go when determining if it should exist? Having it set automatically is probably required, as some people think it is only for empty and remove it after only providing a description or location... Lots of problems ~ɠą§ɔîéɳčę { talk } 22:00, June 5, 2011 (UTC)

A workaround can be found for the empty sections, I guess. And for the comments sections, it obviously can be created. The HL1 soundtrack page is not said to be complete, it just has the table system that should be followed. We can tweak it more, and reduce the text until we can display everything we want, as in these pages. What do you think? Klow 22:13, June 5, 2011 (UTC)
I was thinking of putting the Empty template above the song title, might be cleaner. But still, considering the available space, the comments won't for right... Unless we like... break up the sections a certain way... So confusing. ~ɠą§ɔîéɳčę { talk } 22:40, June 5, 2011 (UTC)
Really, everything can fit into a table without any problem. I'd try something, but I already have too much to do here and IRL. Klow 22:56, June 5, 2011 (UTC)

GLaDOS picture description

I removed the part about her "looking like a girl hanged upside down by her feet, her hands tied in the back" as that is entirely subjective and not based on any game or developer information. --98.161.60.35 03:52, June 9, 2011 (UTC)

No, Valve intended her to appear feminine, hence this appearance. The fact that you don't know something doesn't make it "entirely subjective" to someone else. Anyway your edit has already been reverted by someone else. Klow 08:39, June 9, 2011 (UTC)

Question

Hi Klow, I am a bureaucrat on another wiki and I had a question about yours. I noticed that the browser's heading displays a different message other than "Half-Life Wiki", instead it says "Combine OverWiki, the Half-Life and Portal wiki...". I was wondering how you do that? Also how do you get the search text to say "Search Combine OverWiki"? Thanks and sorry if this is a weird question. Omnicube1 00:10, June 10, 2011 (UTC)

Why would "Half-Life Wiki" be the default name? "Half-Life and Portal wiki" is not "instead" of anything, it's just what we are. Anyway. Through Special:SpecialPages, you have System messages. In it is what you are looking for: MediaWiki:Pagetitle, MediaWiki:Pagetitle-view-mainpage, MediaWiki:Tagline, MediaWiki:Tooltip-search. You can actually customize any of the System messages to your needs. Hope this helps! Klow 19:01, June 10, 2011 (UTC)
It helps a lot! Thanks, I envy the design of your wiki. Omnicube1 02:43, June 11, 2011 (UTC)
Thanks! But there's still a lot to improve. Klow 19:05, June 11, 2011 (UTC)

Re: Central Core Room, again

If I had time, I'd look all over for this. Perhaps it's hidden by dirt or something when the game opens. But if it really isn't in the game, this can be questionable. Then again, there's no reason to deny a title rarely given. The room is generally used for AI... I'd prefer calling it as the image says, but lets wait for more opinion. ~ɠą§ɔîéɳčę { talk } 03:52, June 14, 2011 (UTC)

I say we can go with it. Though, as much as I want "Central Core Room", Personality Cores are technically A.I., and GLaDOS is a more advanced version of them. I say we go with it. McFlurryMax 05:55, June 14, 2011 (UTC)

Portal 2 Guide: Timeline and Canonicity

I just found a copy of the Portal 2 Brady Games guide. It has a great once-and-for-all-canon timeline that reconciles the game's timeline with the ARG's. Should I edit the timeline, and if so, can you edit the Canon page to include the brady guide? 173.52.16.217 05:30, June 19, 2011 (UTC)

I included the guide in the canon list. Could you go into further detail about what's really worthwhile in the guide? Also, create an account, that'll be easier to communicate. Klow 09:41, June 19, 2011 (UTC)
Okay. It provides concrete dates for all the major events: i.e., Cave's kidneys fail in 1980, and he outlines his 3-tier plan (indicating that moon rock silicoconiosis wasn't the sole cause of death). Aperture begins work on GLaDOS in 1986 after they learn Black Mesa is testing teleportation tech. I just made quite a large change to the Half-Life: Decay storyline page layout and the first two chapters, Could you check this out so that it is not counted as vandalism Thanks in advance Adapool 11:33, June 19, 2011 (UTC)

While adding the chapter numbers is nice, it is not present in the other storyline articles. So for consistence, either add the numbers in the other articles, or remove them from the Decay article. The first suggestion is the best I guess. Klow 12:35, June 19, 2011 (UTC)
do I have permission to remove the underconstruction and Cleanup banners from this page. And should I also add chapters to the other storyline articles, or just remove them from this article, although I do think that the adding of chapters does improve the organization of the page Adapool 08:26, June 20, 2011 (UTC)
Typically you don't have the permission to remove the Cleanup template, only admins do. What you can do is replace it with the Cleanup2 template, to notify that it has been cleaned up, and is awaiting review from the admins. I did it, and removed the underconstruction template. And as I said before, it would indeed be better to have the chapter numbers in all articles, so I'll say go ahead! Klow 09:16, June 20, 2011 (UTC)
I will add chapters to the Half-Life original game storylines first, If it works, keep it, If not, It can be removed at anytime. Adapool 09:23, June 20, 2011 (UTC)

Anti-Vandalism

Seriously, we NEED to do something about all these idiots that keep vandalizing these pages(removing all the content and replacing it with a ridiculous comment)! I know we have the undo button, but it's just frustrating to have to see so many parasites disrespecting the site. Isn't there some sort of policy that allows you to permanently ban anyone who trashes pages too many times?--Pccraine 16:27, June 20, 2011 (UTC)

Pivot Cubes

Well, it appears that "Pivot Cubes" although are the names popularly known for it, it's been officially introduced in the game by GLaDOS as "Discouragement Redirection Cubes", and there aren't any in-game infomercial videos to state otherwise. Most of the game files and Hammer itself refers to these cubes as "reflective" instead of "pivot". I've talked to SiPlus on this but he doesn't agree. I really think we should change it to Discouragement Redirection Cube, GLaDOS wouldn't temper with the names of Aperture products and she is very loyal to Aperture, so I'm pretty sure Discouragement Redirection Cube would be it's right name. McFlurryMax 05:39, June 21, 2011 (UTC)

[sarcasm]SiPlus doesn't agree to something? Really?[/sarcasm] GLaDOS may be referring to them informally, in the way that Weighted Pivot Cubes are discouragement redirection cubes. However we could say that's in another name for them. Weighted Pivot Cube is also official, as it is given here. But it may have simply changed. I guess its proper name is given in Portal 2 guide, but I don't have it. So yeah, no clear answer from me, sorry. Klow 09:02, June 21, 2011 (UTC)

I think that the Easter eggs need to be completely removed from this article and put into the Half-Life: Blue Shift, It isn't really part of the storyline, do I have permission to move the easter eggs into the main Half-Life: Blue Shift article? Adapool 08:19, June 22, 2011 (UTC)
I added the Easter eggs from the storyline page to the main Half-Life: Blue Shift page, I hope this is ok, they can now be deleted from the storyline page if you agree, If not then just remove them from the main page Adapool 10:00, June 22, 2011 (UTC)
Well it's good to still have them in the storyline articles for convenience. Klow 14:57, June 22, 2011 (UTC)
how about moving the Easter Eggs to the bottom of the page, with links in each section that lead to the section of Easter Eggs in that chapter. such as a statement such as For Easter Eggs in this chapter, click here(links to bottom of page). If not, then I can't think of anything else, I have checked through all the information of this article. Adapool 09:30, June 23, 2011 (UTC)

Half Life 2

Why was this page removed? It was a good redirect, as some people actually write it like that... Although the correct spelling is "Half-Life 2". You didn't even give any reason for removing it... Barney Calhoun in Half Life

Hey, I think this might be silly, but I really think that Barney was the guy who opened the tram door in Black Mesa Inbound because he says, "I'll buy you a beer" and then in Half-Life 2 he says "Now... about that beer I owed ya!" Omnicube1 05:16, June 27, 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, it's silly. Barney couldn't be at two places at the same time. The beer quote is just a nod to the random Barney quotes. Hi! I made spoiler script (placed in User:SiPlus/wikia.js and User:SiPlus/wikia.css), can I make it wiki-wide JS?

It applies to everything of class "spoiler" (also uses spoilerOff and spoilerOn classes internally) and spoilerOn classes internally), but if you want to add multiple classes including spoiler for same tag it won't work, maybe I'll fix this.

It does not work like on The Portal Wiki, however, it removes text entirely, I can't make text same color as background for sups and subs, maybe I will find a way to fix this. ====~[,,SiPlus the Pop Tart,,]=^_^= Nyan! 16:57, June 30, 2011 (UTC)

CombineOverwiki.net background

Well, I feel that the background image you guys are using feels a little old and not as stylish as most sites would do. I might try making a background image but I'm not sure how I can achieve it yet and would love to hear your input on this. I just know that using game textures won't really do it. I hope I can help get the right background image if I figure out how, and I certainly hope the new wiki will be beautiful. McFlurryMax 11:59, July 12, 2011 (UTC)

Actually this image is just used for the current teaser, I never planned to use it as part of the default skin. I actually still have to think about that. But using texture images works, you know. We use one on YouTube, and before Wikia forced the new skin upon us, we used one as well, and it looked nice (minus the filthy ads). So we may do that again, or reuse for a time the background image we currently use here, then change it later, who knows. Thanks for your input! It's sad you are not on Steam. Well you don't have to accept. Not every sysop is an expert in every game from the HLP universe. We can postpone it if you want. Klow 08:21, July 16, 2011 (UTC)
Forgive me for realizing what sysop really is this late. You were planning on making me admin? I'm not that good at writing articles yet, and I'm not sure if I'm going to be a good one. I honestly can't accept the offer. Sorry for this, but I'm really inexperienced with these things. I thought sysop was something else. :V Sorry about that. McFlurryMax 11:09, July 16, 2011 (UTC)
Since you are both dedicated, relevant and mature (from what I've said) and we need admins, I thought you two would be a good choice. Klow 11:34, July 16, 2011 (UTC)
Thank you but I haven't gotten the slightest bit of mindset on anything related to responsibility. Sorry that I can't do this, but thank you so much for offering. McFlurryMax 12:53, July 16, 2011 (UTC)

Screw you both, then! ;) Klow 12:57, July 16, 2011 (UTC)

Wait... turning down sysop?! Well, it's your choice anyway, but neither of you would have been at all bad for the job. Bramblepath 13:43, July 17, 2011 (UTC)
What Bramblepath said! :P Klow 13:52, July 17, 2011 (UTC)
I have been putting together a new computer under the instruction of a guy who knows how, and I am hoping this will all function when it is together. Then, I have been distracted with these events in MapleStory. It is where I first used this name, so I can not really abandon the the character I have had for 5 years and disallow it things considered cool. I got it the Smiley Mask, although now I can not make expressions.
My point is, I might not be around much until like sometime to mid August. ~ɠą§ɔîéɳčę { talk } 06:54, July 21, 2011 (UTC)
Which is in, like, 3 tiny weeks? :P Klow 11:18, July 21, 2011 (UTC)
Well, do not expect much. How about that? I might be like Stigma on BioShock Wiki. She only comes around when all the other administrators are away and there is a massive spam strike I must alert an administrator to over MSN. ~ɠą§ɔîéɳčę { talk } 00:13, July 23, 2011 (UTC)
I guess it would work passively. ~ɠą§ɔîéɳčę { talk } 00:40, July 25, 2011 (UTC)

Screen res

Actually, my screen res really is that small. I can't go any higher than this, sadly. McFlurryMax 08:37, July 16, 2011 (UTC)

No, not higher, just enable 16/9 in window mode, you'll see. The width won't change, only the height. Items will be smaller though, but you'll have a wider view. Klow 08:55, July 16, 2011 (UTC)
I'm not quite sure if I could adapt to that setting. I never liked using window mode :V I could give it a try though and see if I can get used to it. McFlurryMax 09:06, July 16, 2011 (UTC)
Well, it's not really about getting used to it, it's about choosing the best ratio for what you intend to capture. Klow 08:32, July 21, 2011 (UTC)

Re: Image categories

Ah, sorry about that. I didn't think that would be a problem. I'll try to revert these. McFlurryMax 12:17, July 17, 2011 (UTC)

I knew I could count on you! ;) Klow 12:21, July 17, 2011 (UTC)

Your Steam name?

Hi, I recently got Steam and was looking to add a few friends, and since you've done so much on this wiki I thought I'd ask if I could add you! :) What's your Steam name so I can add you? Or you could add me, my name is tom8109 and I only use Steam on Portal 2 on PS3 at the moment. Thanks! Tzslynx 21:11, July 27, 2011 (UTC)

A link to my Steam account can be found here. ;) Klow 08:26, July 28, 2011 (UTC)
Ok, I sent you a friend request but it says "Klow has been added to your friends list, under the name klow44"... Whenever I add someone who isn't a PS3 player, it always says they've been added to my friends list, but under a different name - any idea why this is? Is it something to do with forum names? Thanks in advance Tzslynx 12:20, July 29, 2011 (UTC)
No idea. I have one PS3 player friend and we added each other without any problem. Klow 15:06, July 29, 2011 (UTC)
There's no problem there. You have a username people add you by, then a nickname which you are known by. I made my Steam at random long ago, so my username is plain random. I nicknamed myself MegaScience, so if people add me, they'd get a similar message. ~ɠą§ɔîéɳčę { talk } 00:28, July 31, 2011 (UTC)

We don't care

Dear Administrator,

I see that my edit to the article Airboat has been removed with the reason in the title. It's alright. My question here would be, in terms is Trivia, what do you care?

Thank you very much and have a nice life.

Sincerely, --96.21.156.53 21:49, July 29, 2011 (UTC)

I'm not sure I exactly get what you mean. Klow 16:57, July 30, 2011 (UTC)
Right, I'm sorry. The Airboat article, I wrote "You can use the flashlight while in the Airboat without draining the suit's Aux Power", or something very similar to this. This line was removed by you with the reason "in a nutshell, we don't care!" as per the History page. Now, what I would like to know is that what type of Trivia is cared here, basically the location of the line that is to be (or already) drawn.
Thank you very much and have a nice life.
--96.21.156.53 22:15, July 30, 2011 (UTC)
PS. You may see that the IP addresses are different. This is because my dynamic IP is dynamically dynamic.
I'm sure this was unintended. What you've said sounds very trivial to the article, and being a spontaneous IP editor, it seemed as if you were just picking out something to add without considering it's importance. Now you are showing more interest than a passive IP editor, which shows you put more thought into it than it originally appeared. Apologizes even if I wasn't involved, just trying to explain. ~ɠą§ɔîéɳčę { talk } 00:28, July 31, 2011 (UTC)
I see that your IP dynamically remained identical in the second post. We refer to trivia as "trivial information, such as little details that does not add much to the subject, could even be disregarded, but are fun to know." About your trivia "It is possible to use the flashlight while in the airboat without draining the suit's Aux Power. This is of little use, however, as the environment is well-lit.". My edit summary "in a nutshell, we don't care!" could have been put at the end of your contribution, because to me you wrote something that was more than irrelevant, and you were even kinda emphasizing this irrelevance in the last sentence. "We can use the flashlight, but it's useless, since the tunnels are lit enough. So meh, it's useless, so whatever." It would be like saying "you can jump during the teleportation sequence at the start of HL2, but that won't change anything, so yeah whatever.". See what I mean? So when you feel like adding a fact that know is irrelevant, well, just don't add it. Hope that answers your question. Klow 09:07, July 31, 2011 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your explanation and have a nice life. Good luck with the website migration.
--96.21.156.53 22:49, July 31, 2011 (UTC)
PS. The line was added because no other in-game operable motor vehicle (Scout Car and Muscle Car) has operable illumination systems. I don't think that the jump analogy functions here, but maybe it would if it was a reverse analogy as the only part where you cannot jump is during Stalker "pod" rides in the Citadel. Or maybe during Confiscation Field sessions. Maybe I should try that. Hey now...
Still.

Hey

I am a frequent visitor to this wiki and have noticed that many Portal related articles still have links to the Aperture Science Website and Game Informer timelines even though both have been shown to be non-canon. I would like to know if it would be alright for me to remove this erroneous information from the many Portal pages? I aks becuase I know how strict wikis are with editing. SajuukKhar 02:32, July 30, 2011 (UTC)

Who told you they weren't canon? Klow 16:56, July 30, 2011 (UTC)
Mark Laidlaw declared the Gameinformer timeline, and by relation the Aperture Science website timeline, since they are the saem timeline, as false. SajuukKhar 19:43, July 30, 2011 (UTC)
Marc told me only "1998" was incorrect, he didn't talk about the other dates, and didn't contradict any of the new facts from the updated GI timeline ("Gordon's arrival at Black Mesa was sometime in the 2000's, and the Black Mesa Incident was a short while after that"). Before that, Meagan from Game Informer told me their timeline had been received directly from Erik Wolpaw. So I get we must take it seriously after all. Or do you have further information I don't have? Klow 08:59, July 31, 2011 (UTC)

Re: Page moves

Sorry about that. I completely forgot about it, and I'll tend to it right now. Thanks for reminding me about it. McFlurryMax 12:00, July 31, 2011 (UTC)

Steam PS3 issues again?

I've tried to add 4 people now (all under nicknames XD) but none of them have been added to my Steam friends list... Could you accept my friend request please? If that doesn't work, try to add me - either tom8109 or psn_tom8109 if that fails. It says you're klow44, is this correct? Thanks Tzslynx 12:26, August 1, 2011 (UTC)

I added "tom8109". Klow 19:09, August 1, 2011 (UTC)

HL problem

Hi, Klow, I'm Arby57, sorry for my poor English, but I'm Italian. I'm new on this wiki. I want to ask you a thing. I downloaded Half Life 1, but at the start of the game, when I'm in the train, when I arrive at the end of the journey, there are a security guard who opens the door of the train but on my version of game the guard's don't moves and stays still, so I remain in the train for all the time and I can't go ahead in the game. Furthermore the console codes don't work on my version, but why all that? Also your game does the same thing if you have it? Write me soon! --Arby57 10:10, August 13, 2011 (UTC)

Please put a title when starting a new topic. What version are you using? And what do you mean by "I downloaded Half Life 1"? Klow 09:33, August 14, 2011 (UTC)
I downloaded Half Life 1 from the Internet, I don't know what version I have, but I downloaded a patch that contains other three games, Counter Strike Source, Team Fortress and Hl Blue Shift. Howewer I unzipped Half Life 1 files with WinRar, and I took the keygen from the Internet, I put it into the game and it worked. But that stupid guard doesn't moves!!! Probably I downloaded a fake version, because also the console codes doesn't works! Why all this in your opinion? --Arby57 10:45, August 14, 2011 (UTC)
Just get a valid copy of the game, for instance here. Klow 19:53, August 14, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the link --Arby57 20:11, August 16, 2011 (UTC)

Cartoon Hl2

Hi Klow, I found a funny cartoon parody of HL2. If you mind, I'd leave it here. Do you mind? --Arby57 08:34, August 16, 2011 (UTC)

What do you mean, "leave it here"? Link please? Is that "HL in 60 seconds"? Klow 22:03, August 16, 2011 (UTC)

No, it's an other parody,click here http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=video&cd=1&sqi=2&ved=0CDMQtwIwAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dz0EGIssGyc8&ei=WHdLTuXlPI_Cswb3z5ykBw&usg=AFQjCNGnbWkranDVSVTUX7IlwoNxUo6HVA

Have you watched the cartoon? If you did, please write on my talk page --Arby57 20:02, August 17, 2011 (UTC)

I watched it, it's not that great. And I always answer here, like stated on top of this page. Klow 07:15, August 18, 2011 (UTC)

Ok,I like very much this cartoon, but there are 5 parts, you watched part 3 --Arby57 08:14, August 18, 2011 (UTC) Hey klow, have you ever tried to download gmod? If you had, can you tell me how did you download it? --Arby57 21:07, August 18, 2011 (UTC)

Get your copy here. Klow 07:57, August 19, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, but a free version? --Arby57 08:47, August 19, 2011 (UTC)

You can easily get version 9 if you Google it (it's the most recent version), but it's broken, outdated and unsupported. Klow 12:58, August 19, 2011 (UTC)
Do you have smod? Can you giveme the link, if you have it? --Arby57 17:01, August 19, 2011 (UTC)
Duh? Klow 22:19, August 19, 2011 (UTC)

File:Lambda Reactor Core concept.jpg

You can see that image downloading the file from here page 34-35.

TuningBEB2008 22:52, August 19, 2011 (UTC)

What exactly is your point?... Klow 14:21, August 23, 2011 (UTC)

Ban IP editor

I would request that you could ban 68.103.222.192. He added a theory on the Moon talk page multiple times, although I asked him to use the forum every single time. When I left a message on his talk page concerning the issue, he turned to adding vandalism on the Aperture Science Security Camera talk page. Thanks in advance.--Fijure 08:01, August 21, 2011 (UTC)

Blocked for 1 year. If you have problems with vandals, tell me. SiPlus 14:35, August 21, 2011 (UTC)
Ok, I'll remeber that for the future.--Fijure 15:03, August 21, 2011 (UTC)

Hi klow, I'm Arby57, do you know when will come out black mesa source? Ah, and the cartoon? Do you remember the cartoon I sent to you? Have you watched all parts? --Arby57 09:19, August 30, 2011 (UTC)

Checking in

Hi Klow. I haven't seen anything on the blog about my email to you. Can you confirm you passed it on to Bramblepath and anyone else who needs to see it? I want to make this a smooth transition, so want to be sure that no one mistakenly starts spamming because they didn't get the information about what is and isn't acceptable during your move. Thanks -- sannse http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb32675/wikia/images/e/e9/WikiaStaff.png (help forum | blog) 17:32, September 7, 2011 (UTC)

Sorry, it was a bit rushed. I updated the messages, hope that's fine, but don't ask me to encourage people to stay. Klow 21:16, September 7, 2011 (UTC)
Before I forget: a gamer who gave me several screenshots based on game maps he personally worked on for many hours asked me to remove them from the Wikia wiki, that he wants them to be on the new wiki only, because he did that for us. I must access his demand, that's gamer's loyalty. This doesn't concern the core material of the wiki, which can survive without these images. Please don't ban me for "damaging" or "sabotaging" when I start, because it's not. I'll do it properly and won't leave anything broken. I could have done that 6 months ago anyway, and we are not effectively gone as of right now. Call that tidying up an apartment for the next tenant. Thought I'd tell you beforehand, to avoid confusion and be of good faith. Klow 22:27, September 7, 2011 (UTC)
And, Sannse, I will remove all of my Half-Life beta findings (including articles, not only images) and my vector images from this wiki. I donated them to OverWiki, not just a Half-Life wiki. Klow, can I start? Is database fully copied? SiPlus 04:12, September 8, 2011 (UTC)
The database is fully copied, so technically we can. We are of good faith anyway. Klow 07:46, September 8, 2011 (UTC)

As I just wrote on the blog, removing valid content from this wiki is not OK. Permission to use the content was given by adding it here. You would not remove all the content created by <random user> who just decided to move on from your new wiki, that's simply not how wikis work. I don't call it "tidying up an apartment for the next tenant", I call it "ripping off the wallpaper and making the place less attractive for the next tenant". I appreciate the message (and apologize for the slow reply, I was on vacation at the end of last week), but please do not remove anything from this wiki that you would not remove from your new one. -- sannse http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb32675/wikia/images/e/e9/WikiaStaff.png (help forum | blog) 16:40, September 13, 2011 (UTC)

If I find some old coins while living in a hotel and put them on a shelf in the hotel, they do not become property of the hotel. I donated findings and SVGs to the wiki, not to the domain. SiPlus 18:50, September 13, 2011 (UTC)
If you put in a new window-frame in the apartment you are renting, you don't get to rip them out when you move.
We could probably continue this in analogies ;) but I think it better that we talk on the blog and not clutter Klow's talk page. -- sannse http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb32675/wikia/images/e/e9/WikiaStaff.png (help forum | blog) 18:53, September 14, 2011 (UTC)

Bringing this back to my original question, Klow - did my email about what is allowable as the wiki forks get shown to the other admins and any other community members that need the info? If not, I can copy the details over to the wiki - perhaps that would be best as a new blog post?

I saw that there is now a Template:MovementNotice, which made me realize one that I missed. I've seen past forks try to add a notice to every page of the Wikia wiki with similar templates. In effect, that's turning the Wikia version into a giant advert for the new site. We are OK with a notice on the main page and community corner for a while, to make sure the current community knows what's happening, but not with adding a notice to articles. The template is only being used in the right places at the moment... so hopefully all is well there. I just wanted to continue to be upfront and try and avoid future misunderstandings -- sannse http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb32675/wikia/images/e/e9/WikiaStaff.png (help forum | blog) 23:10, September 19, 2011 (UTC)
