The Combine Battery is a type of power source used by the Combine that appears in Half-Life: Alyx.

Overview

The Combine Battery is the major form of power source of Combine technology in Half-Life: Alyx. It takes a cylindrical shape with multiple blue lights on the sides, and several spike-like devices on either ends. It is used in tandem with the Combine outlets seen in many facilities that, when inserted into, provides electricity to open doors or activate machinery. Alternatively, the hearts of Revivers can play a similar role and be inserted into outlets.

Behind the scenes

Concept art for the Combine Battery originally showed a Reviver's heart suspended inside the canister that would be visible when the cover was slid open. In the end, the contents were replaced by a glowing light for the sake of visibility during gameplay.[1]
