The Combines use "code words" for certain things for communication, same goes for locations. Locations named by the Combine are not only "code words", but could also be a defined zone by them.

Location prefixes[edit]

Below are Location prefixes, matched with sentences.txt files. Mostly every map has a location prefix, that will be used as a sentence for a NPC to speak. So depending on the sentences.txt's configuration, it will define a sound file to play, that can be defined depending on map with different variants. These location names may be incorrect at certain places on the map when they get used in the game, however still do provide some information how the Combine uses them.

  • For the trainstation it is: "Station Block", "Transit Block", "Workforce Intake Hub".
  • For the canals it is: "Canal Block", "Storm System", "Waste River", "Restricted Block" (Filename: deservicedarea). But since it is random which one gets chosen, there are some "inaccuracies".
