Combine Hunters may be modified Vortigaunts!
Vortigaunts have two interesting traits: in the front they have the third, weak little arm that hangs off their chest/stomach. On their "rear end", they don't wear pants, and you always see two holes, like exhaust pipes in their rump.
Now, kill a Combine Hunter and examine the corpse. Notice on its backside it has two distinct holes in its rear end, much like a Vortigaunt. Now also notice it has a small, puny limb, much like the one on any Vortigaunt's chest.
I'm not saying this is definitive proof that Combine Hunters are modified Vortigaunts, but if the Combine is modifying humans into Stalkers, it is easy to believe they're modifying Vortigaunts into some useful form of creature for combat or service.
- There is plenty of speculation about Hunters. One thread I read reckoned they were hyper-evolved Houndeyes out of original Half-Life, due to their three legs and the sound they make. Neither this nor your speculation is proof or evidence however, so cannot be put into the article. Coming Second 22:22, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
- I agree with second. I do not beleive the hunters are vortigaunts and are, more probabaly, houndeyes captured and madifired by the Combine. Besides, if the hunter's were Vortigaunts, what happened to the green vortessence energy beam? Plus, why would a race as intelligent as the Combine trade in the advantage of a bipedal creature with manipulative hands and arms for a tripedal creature with no arms? ~HironStake
- Tripeds are faster then bipeds. Plus if they are Houndeyes, how did they get a flettchette shooting ability? I don't think that they are enhanced anything, Why can't anybody just say that they are Synth machines? Just like the Strider, Shield Scanner, Gunship, Dropship, Crab Synth, and Mortar Synth?
- "Plus, why would a race as intelligent as the Combine trade in the advantage of a bipedal creature with manipulative hands and arms for a tripedal creature with no arms?" Well, the Combine turn humans into Stalkers, which have no hands, and appear to like them like that. However, the Vortigaunts have five limbs (two arms, two legs and the third arm in their chest), and there's no evidence that Hunters have vestigial arms, so I guess not. I believe the twin "exhaust holes" might simply be a trait of Xen creatures - perhaps twin digestive systems were an evolutionary advantage in Xen? After all, most birds, reptiles and mammals have two nostrils (I think all, actually). 202.63.41.201 12:04, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
