Hi people, this is a long shot but I figure it's worth posting anyway. I represent a group of people at the online gaming magazine The Escapist. Each year our site hosts a developer showdown, known as March Mayhem, where gamers register on the site and vote for their favourite developers in a series of rounds. The competition is now in the Semi-Finals and Valve have made it this far, only to go up against Zynga.

For those of you who don't know, Zynga is a developer of Facebook apps, including Farmville and Mafia Wars. Zynga have advertised themselves extensively on Facebook and as a result have beaten Infinity Ward, NC Soft, Rockstar North and Square Enix. Now they're threatening to beat Valve.

We need to show Zynga that Facebook apps aren't games. This is a fight to prove that games like Half Life, Portal and Left 4 Dead are true games, not things like Farmville. How many of you have been persistently annoyed by friends' Facebook feeds popping up with constant messages about how they need to 'save this little pig' on their farms? How many hours of enjoyment have you had fighting through Ravenholme and the White Forest? This is a call to arms for anyone who cares about gaming, and about Valve. If you truly care, then please help us:

Currently, Zynga is winning by about 1200 votes, and your vote can go twice by connecting a Twitter account to your Escapist forum account used to cast your vote. The thread itself is led by legions of die-hard Valve fans ready to fight, but held back by Zynga voters and moderators who question the morality of the Valve fans already on. The poll closes Sunday at noon and the Twitter votes are counted with them.
