Questionable Ethics/Scenes
This is a list of scripted scenes in the Half-Life chapter Questionable Ethics.
Used[edit]
| As the player approach the lobby, a security guard waits at a corner to clue the player in.
Security Guard: Hey, it's no good up there. It's all sealed off. The only way out would be to find someone with scanner access who can open the front door. I'm pretty sure there's a few scientists hiding somewhere in the labs. Maybe with both of us looking, we can track them down and get them to let us out. |
| There is a scientist and a security guard barricaded themselves in a room in the laser lab. They argue about a prototype weapon. The overcharge kills them both, and blows up the barricade.
Security Guard: What is this thing? Some kinda weapon? Scientist: Put that down—it's a prototype. Security Guard: Man! Why aren't we using it? Scientist: It's much too unpredictable. Don't let it overcharge! Security Guard: What do you mean, overcharge? |
| The player finds three scientists hiding in a room with an out of control surgical unit.
Scientist #1: A scientist, thank God! Get us out of here before those military drones figure out where we're hiding! Scientist #2: We all have retinal scanner access. Escort us to the lobby, and we can get out of the lab. Scientist #3: You'll have to shut down the surgical unit first. Peters switched it on but I'm afraid he never made it back. |
| The scientist talks to the player after using the retinal scanner.
Scientist: Well, I'll let you out, but I'm warning you...it's hell out there. It's completely under military control. You'll have to sneak and fight your way from one end to the other, and I don't expect you'll meet many of our peers along the way. But if you do survive and somehow make it across the base, you'll end up at the Lambda Complex, where the rest of the science team has taken shelter. I wouldn't venture there myself, but I will let them know that you are coming. |
Unused[edit]
| There was to be an argument scene between a security guard and scientist. The guard was to accuse scientists for everything that is happening, thinking that aliens are actually mutants created by the scientists. The conversation was to be interrupted by the player.
Security Guard: This is all happening because of you scientists! Scientist: It's not our fault, I tell you. Security Guard: It is, you made these mutants! Scientist: Nature made them, we were only studying them. Security Guard: Shut up, someone's coming. |

Security Guard: Jeez, and I thought I had a long night. You look like hell! I don't suppose the day's going to be any easier. Listen, I'm going to wait it out right here. You go on ahead if you have to. |
| There was to be a security guard waiting in the booth of the first sterilizer chamber. He was to push the button and tell the player to get in the booth immediately.
Security Guard: Get in here, quick! |
| A security guard was to teach the player how to use the sterilizers.
Security Guard: These sterilizers come in handy. You ever find yourself in a bind, just duck into one of these booths, hit the big button. They're supposed to kill microorganisms, but they work on the big stuff too. |

Scientist: If you let us all die, Freeman, you'll never get out of here! |
