Name[edit]

The Opposing Force manual says clearly that it is a MP5, although they mistakenly write it as a "MP-5"

The MP5 ingame isn't silenced. It just has a horrible model. Just look the world model.

Second Person[edit]

Second person and stylistic errors have been fixed.--Thelastlambda 21:03, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Name[edit]

Decay and probably around 50% of all BS installs use the M4, so I say we should change the name back to "SMG" or something similar.71.245.76.111 16:10, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Please sign your comments. You could even register so that (at least) you don't have ugly adds popping everywhere. Anyway that makes two games against two games. That's weak for a change that won't be made anyway. Klow 09:25, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
"MP5" works for people who use the original model. "SMG" covers both the MP5 and the M4. Since there's no real reason to use MP5 over SMG, why not just change it back?71.245.76.111 03:28, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
The M4 is kinda trivial, really. We don't change the Glock page name either. Klow 20:21, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
If you don't want to change the name would you consider making a seperate page for the M4 (and the HD pistol whos name I don't remember) since they are in fact different weapons.--Eateroftheflame 23:36, October 16, 2009 (UTC)

MP5SD[edit]

It's pretty widely accepted that it's based off the Malaysian version that I linked to. Here's another link: http://www.ludd.ltu.se/~antenna/mp5-m203.jpg I see no evidence that it's an MP5SD. In fact, I see a lot more evidence saying it's not. 72.92.226.25 01:44, March 15, 2010 (UTC)

Unless Valve says outright that it's based off of the Malaysian version, then we're not adding in that fact. The Malaysian thing sounds like pure speculation to me. Darkman 4 03:30, March 15, 2010 (UTC)
Every picture I could find on Google was either the Malaysian model or a screenshot of HL. Since Valve probably can't travel through time, it makes sense that they used it as the basis. 72.92.226.25 02:34, March 19, 2010 (UTC)
Also, the MP5's view model is clearly an MP5SD. Look at it in a model viewer and you'll see. Darkman 4 03:31, March 15, 2010 (UTC)
I assume you mean the fat barrel? It's either a suppressor or a muzzle brake similar to the ones in the pictures (note: the size of the slots in the picture above would actually make it fairly hard to see in GoldSrc). And since the gun is still quite loud and bright... 72.92.226.25 02:34, March 19, 2010 (UTC)
By the way, here's another picture of what I'm talking about. (It was taken several years after HL's release, but it's the same idea) http://www.imfdb.org/images/1/14/EODMP5A3-2.jpg

Reverted edit[edit]

My edit of this article was reverted. I don't know the reason behind this, so I am unable to learn from my mistake. I got the information by looking at the code and experimenting in different versions. Silikone 17:40, January 4, 2011 (UTC)
