Possible use for the airboat gibs[edit]
So I was looking through the Valve Cut Content wiki's list of unused visgroups in Half-Life 2's maps (this page), and found that one of the unused visgroups in d1_canals_13 is titled "_dam jump/wreck". It was apparently going to be activated during the fall from the from the map's dam and automatically dismount the player from the airboat, leading me to believe that the fall from the dam would've once destroyed the airboat upon it landing. Before this possibly gets added, I have to ask: this too speculative for leaked the airboat gibs' use? — Unsigned comment by Gulliblepikmin
- This is a reasonable assertion to make and include in the article. However, it should be clear what part of this is speculation and what we actually know. The "wreck" visgroup trigger is exceptionally simple, as demonstrated here. We merely infer the consequences of the crash event based on the "wreck" visgroup name, the forced vehicle dismount trigger, and the screen fade to white. - The new developer commentary for Half-Life 2 confirms my suspicions. The node at the start of d1_eli_01 mentions that the airboat was going to get wrecked from the fall at a point in development, seemingly leaving the unused wreckage props in its wake. -Gulliblepikmin 18:31, 17 November 2024 (MSK)
