Spelling[edit]

Is the official spelling "Annabelle" (two N's) or "Anabelle" (one N)? Might want to check for consistency in articles and page names.

I'm certain it's "Annabelle". --MattyDienhoff 04:05, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

New Name?[edit]

I'm thinking we should rename this and remove all mention of the Annabelle being a "shotgun", since it is, in fact, a rifle. --MattyDienhoff 03:12, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

I don't think we should change the name, but put that information in trivia, since in the game it's a shotgun, if I remember correctly from testing it in GMod. --Scruffy 16:03, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
But it's NOT a shotgun. It doesn't fire in a spread, doesn't look like a shotgun, and has a two-shot magazine. It's a winchester; we must remember that GMod may not have complete cannonicity. --Kingofthefirealiens96.253.162.215 03:45, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
I'm in favour of the recent name change, though I think "Lever-Action Rifle" is being a bit overspecific. --MattyDienhoff 10:07, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
The Annabelle ain't a shotgun. 202.156.14.83 13:53, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
  • It's chambered for .357 Magnum rounds, not shotgun shells.
  • It shares ammo with the .357 revolver. And the revolver doesn't spread.
Do the words "slug gun" mean anything to you? It fires single bullets, it doesn't cock after each shot, it holds 2 rounds, and it uses shotgun animations. A slug gun is just a double-barrel shotgun with a bullet in it. As for appearances, there ARE over-under shotguns.71.245.76.111 03:07, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
I think you're right that a lot of the Annabelle's characteristics match those of an over-under shotgun firing slugs, but the fact remains that it does, technically use .357 Magnum (which I wouldn't have expected to see a rifle chambered in anyway, but it turns out there are .357 Magnum rifles, here's one.). Then again, maybe we should ask ourselves, does that really matter? Since the Annabelle isn't meant to be used by the player, it's possible the type of ammo it uses is just a placeholder not meant to be representative of the weapon. On the other hand, it could be intended to be a rifle, but Valve just didn't spend the time to animate its action properly.
Instead of arguing about it forever, how about this?
  • We leave the type of weapon out of the name entirely, and just leave the article named Annabelle.
  • We rewrite the article asserting that it could be either a rifle or an over-under shotgun firing slugs, since it's difficult to tell when the weapon is so low detail and unusable in normal gameplay.
Reasonable compromise? --MattyDienhoff «talk» 05:58, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
Fair enough. — Unsigned comment by 71.245.76.111

It is indeed a Model 1886 Rifle.[edit]

The third image on this website is the exact same as the hl2 beta texture and the only difference between beta and retail is retail has the gun stock edited to have no shiny reflections in the wood. https://collectorsfirearms.com/product/winchester-1886-50-express-caliber-rifle-with-schutzen-butt-plate-32-barrel-and-factory-letter-al592/

according on the wayback wayback machine the gun has been on the site since 2002 with the same text and Item number "al592" and "50 Express caliber rifle with Schutzen butt plate, 32" barrel and factory letter" https://web.archive.org/web/20020806111420/http://collectorsfirearms.com:80/antiquelongguns.htm

Although the wayback machine doesn't have the 2002 images archived I assume since the newest link has the same image as the hl2 texture I assume nothing has been changed or altered since then.

Wanted to point this out because the page says it "appears" to be a 1886 model. I would change the page to include this info but I don't know how to write details... Whynotll83 (talk) 07:22, 5 October 2024 (MSK)
