Portmanteau it isn't[edit]

It could be named after the real-world insects called antlions, which also live in sand and fly. Their larvae are also predacious and live in cone shaped structures in sand called sandtraps.

  • Good find! I didn't know that. I'll make the change.Arnavion 13:57, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

The size of a dog?[edit]

Antlions the size of a dog? I think not.

Christ alive, what have you done to this article? I understand the changes you made to "appearances", but the rest of the edits are not only utterly unnecessary, but poorly constructed and spelt. I'm changing this back, and in future plz use ~ ~ ~ ~ to sign your posts. Coming Second 19:39, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

I'll be making edits later on. These school keyboards are terrible.

In the Countermeasures section, it states that antlions cannot be killed by the grav gun. This isn't true, you can kill them, but it takes 10-12 punts to do so. --Telis Ravenlight 07:42, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Fixed, thanks for pointing that out. You could have fixed it just as easily yourself, though. :) --MattyDienhoff 02:30, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Do they come from Xen or not?[edit]

So the new dev commentary for Half-Life 2 says:
"Later, as we developed Coast, we started viewing them more as pests that came through the Xen portals, along with headcrabs and other creatures. While they aren't actually from Xen, they infest the corners of any world they enter—a lot like cockroaches.".
Could someone better at reading intent explain to me whether it's calling back to that one Marc Laidlaw quote where he says that "nothing's native to Xen", or saying that they're less native to Xen than its other fauna, kind of like what we consider as invasive species in our world? -Gulliblepikmin 02:30, 2 December 2024 (MSK)
The interpretation of this new developer commentary is that Antlions are not "from" Xen as in originating there as a native species, which was previously indicated by the notion that "nothing's native to Xen", but the Antlions somehow ended up in Xen just like all of the other established Xen alien creatures (but Antlions specifically were never seen in HL1) and thus arrived on Earth through the same Xen portals as all Xen wildlife did.
