Mutation

I would like to keep the mutation crud in trivia, since it could be the guide writer making stuff up. It is highly unlikely that the guardian is a guard mutant.

Is there a point to this article? The Guardian isn't even it's own species, It's just one of two colouration's of the antlion guard. You never even can tell if it has neurotoxin because you never meet one in combat until the end of the antlion caves.

It has no differance other than a green look. I've never known for it to have toxins or anything. I don't even understand the whole "Don't kill the guardian" thing. You never get a chance to until This Vortal Coil.

Nevermind, I'm an idiot. I never took the scenic route. I just cheated and fell down the hole.

Question, since the Vortigaunts refer to them as "Ancient Guardians", could that mean they are in fact fully grown Antlion Guards? A possible life cycle is that the Antlion Guards are like ant queens, in which young ones leave the nest and search for a new area to make a new nest. They eventually, if they survive, become Antlion Guardians, laying eggs and guarding the grubs......and when they die, one of several Antlion Guards becomes the new guardian of the nest while the rest leave....and the fact that dying guardians release a chemical that kills their eggs would allow for the new guardian to be the mother of the new generation with no competition from the older one. Something similar is depicted with Xenomorphs in Aliens vs Predator 2: fully grown drones eventually begin to emit a pheromone that makes the rest of the hive attack them. If they survive, they grow into Pretorians and return to protect the queen.--Amitakartok 12:06, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Effects of killing guardian

The article mentions that if you do manage to kill a guardian (with the supercharged gravity gun), the rest of the level plays out normally; there's no code to actually make the larva unusable or anything. What happens later on when you do have to fight it, though? Will the fight still happen, even if it was killed earlier? 24.247.162.139 02:43, July 18, 2011 (UTC)
