Captain status[edit]
I am removing the unsourced claim that Johanson is the captain of the Borealis. The actual written line from Odell, as verified by the lip sync data embedded within the wave file, is as follows:
- "Captain, Johanson, you in there?"
There is a very clear comma between "Captain" and "Johanson". As a native speaker of English for over two decades, I can tell you with full conviction that this is how you would refer to two different people in the same sentence. This also agrees with how the spoken line is actually delivered by the voice actor. To compare, it would make no sense for Alyx to enter the lab and ask "Doctor, Kleiner, you in there?" You would not call out the same person twice both by their title and by their name. However, it would make perfect sense for Alyx to enter and ask "Doctor, Barney, you in there?" Grammatically speaking, the comma is used to separate two different individuals in the list, hence why it's there.
Another line exists in the leak, odelltest.wav and odelltest2.wav, in which Odell also mentions the "Captain" of the ship. He does not call the character "Captain Johanson".
To assume that Johanson is also the captain is baseless speculation (bad) and contradicts the easily verifiable language used (very bad). Marphy (talk) 20:44, 5 April 2013 (BST)
