portal and half life / HPD in half life 2 etc...[edit]

I have a question... Could it be possible that they are going to mix Half-Life 2 and Portal (Later in the future at some point for example) together? Personally I hope not... (Or Gordon has to mary Chell rather than Alyx or something, and Alyx with the impale hearing guy whom she had a crush on). --78.8.133.157 10:45, July 20, 2010 (UTC)

I hope she doesn't marry an impaled person. Ouch! Smelltheashes 22:22, December 6, 2010 (UTC)
I doubt they will, that would ruin the whole series, IMO. Bramblepath 17:32, December 8, 2010 (UTC)

Considering the name considerations of Black Mesa....[edit]

After many a hour looking at one of the scribbled out words (Something) Missile Silo, I have finally discovered that it was actually something quite simple. Look closely. You see the starting letter N, then a U, then the next letter is Illegible, then L, the E and A cannot be read, then you can see the branch of a R.

Quite simply put, all along, it has read NUCLEAR. My word, hours and hours of days spent, trying to figure this thing out. If anyone else has a opinion at what it may be, chime in! — Unsigned comment by KaiRouge

Please sign your comments... You mean on the notes, where it says "Black Butte -something- missile base"? It definitely says nuclear... Bramblepath 12:19, October 17, 2010 (UTC)

Why is Aperture Science in SECOND place?[edit]

Hello there. As said by the talk page header, talk pages are not for general discussion, but changes about the page. Therefore I moved your thread here. Lemme know if you have any remarks or questions! Klow 20:36, 16 February 2013 (GMT)

Black Mesa logo in Portal credits[edit]

A while ago I took screenshots of the Portal credits and spent an hour or so writing down all the ASCII (time well spent!)

Anyway, the Black Mesa logo is

      =$@@%=. .=+H@X:

Hope it helps ;) PPortal symbol.svgrtaler (about | complain) 08:26, 6 October 2015 (BST)

Just realised, someone should crop out the logo in the screenshot in the gallery, the lyrics and team aren't so important :P PPortal symbol.svgrtaler (about | complain) 08:27, 6 October 2015 (BST)

Why does this article exist?[edit]

All the information on this page is either in the BMRF article or could easily be put into it. JerryDX (talk) 00:27, 18 July 2025 (MSK)

BMRF is the facility that's featured in HL; the actual base. Since Black Mesa owned other property, like White Forest, it makes sense to talk about it outside of just the main facility. It doesn't hurt having this page and some of its contents won't really belong in the BMRF page because things like Aperture or references in other games don't have anything to do with the facility from the games where it is depicted. If anything, it should be expanded where possible, such as mentioning White Forest with behind-the-scenes references to how it's a bought-out Soviet bunker. Cvoxalury (talk) 01:15, 18 July 2025 (MSK)
Yes, I'm aware this article is about a subject that is technically different than the BMRF, but that doesn't automatically mean it should have a separate page. For example, there aren't two separate pages on Citadels in general and about the Citadel in City 17, despite being different subjects. There's one page on both subjects even though some of the information on the C17 Citadel doesn't apply to the Citadels in general. Because there's so little we know about Citadels broadly and nearly all the information about them has to do with City 17's, there's only one article which mainly discusses the City 17 Citadel but also mentions the others.
Also, I think Aperture Science competing with Black Mesa would fit on the BMRF page — Aperture Science competing with Black Mesa WAS Aperture Laboratories was competing with the BMRF. Same for White Forest, Black Mesa buying it is directly related to the BMRF. They bought White Forest because of issues regarding the BMRF being in North America. --JerryDX (talk) 16:03, 19 July 2025 (MSK)
The BMRF article, like the Aperture Science-equivalent Enrichment Center article, is primarily a location article that takes on the absolutely mammoth endeavor of covering what serves as the backdrop for multiple games. "Black Mesa" by itself, on the other hand, is a distinct topic in that it covers the entity as a corporation which manages to continue with relevance in the series even after the near complete abandonment of the research facility itself as the setting starting with Half-Life 2. While there is relatively scant (but by no means non-existent) background on Black Mesa as a corporation, there's little reason to lump all of this distinct information into what is already the gargantuan facility article that also clearly defines itself as being about the specific locale itself, whereas Black Mesa's known territory has explicitly been expanded beyond this one New Mexico base with the introduction of White Forest.
Incidentally, there's currently a glaring omission in this corporation article in that it doesn't mention White Forest at all. However, it is appropriately marked for cleanup, and this is all the more reason why it has a purpose to exist apart from the research facility location article.
