Enemies[edit]

Are these technically enemies, should they be in the Half-Life Enemies category? --Donovan-j-charlie 16:36, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

It's just that the category "Half-Life Enemies" is inside the Race X template for easier use. It is said that the sprite is harmless, so it's ok. Klow 17:11, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Fair enough. --Donovan-j-charlie 00:27, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Questions[edit]

I have two questions. 1. How do we know it's part of the Race X? 2. Is "Sprite" its real name? Klow 15:08, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

  • I don't think it's part of the Race X. The fact that the Sprites appear near the Race X portals doesn't make them the part of this group. Sprites also appear during the resonance cascade in Half-Life, so they might as well be the part of Xen wildlife. QuiGonJinn Lambda logo.svgYoure dead Freemen! 10:16, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Star[edit]

If thats the entity shouldn't the article be named Star instead of Sprite. Malekron 00:09, February 2, 2010 (UTC)

Appearances[edit]

Doesn't it appear as a highlight of buttons in the Half-Life Hazard Course as well as rushing into Crystal Sample GG-3883 just at the end of Anomalous Materials? Skloomax (talk) 09:27, 7 February 2017 (GMT)

Although they're based on the same artwork, the sprites of the Race X Sprites and the lens flares seen in Half-Life are entirely unique entities. The lens flares in the Hazard Course and the Test Chamber's env_funnel effect use flare6.spr. The Race X Sprites in Opposing Force use the expansion's newly introduced sprite_c_1.spr. As indicated in the article, we can tell Gearbox also considered using the visually distinct sprite_a_1.spr and sprite_b_1.spr. It's anyone's guess as to why they deliberately chose to go with the artwork that's similar to the generic flare effect in the original game, but based on the internal references, there are no indications that the lens flares we see in Half-Life are meant to be related to the Race X creatures seen in Opposing Force.
