About the Translation Project[edit]

Mr. Dereko: I am fairly interested in the translation project that you have initiated and have been diligently working on these days. Starting such a gigantic and unprecedented project from scratch indeed needs much courage and perseverance, and I would like to learn more about what you plan to do in the future. Also, if possible, I would greatly enjoy the opportunity of contributing. Although I know little about technical stuff like formatting, I do have some experience in textual composition and translation (considering that I have personally written a few English pages on the wiki and translated many of them into Chinese & posted them on Chinese forums), so if there's anything I could do, please let me know. Best Regards, Requiem (talk) 06:23, 5 December 2020 (MSK)

Greetings, Mr. Requiem. As you said, the work I am we are committed to requires a lot of time and contributing, and what's more, a thought-out plan. My initial goal is to build up a dictionary and make necessary templates, which would be mostly learned from Team Fortress Wiki. By doing this, not only will our work be easier and better, but I believe it will also benefit the translation work of other languages (may there be more of them in the future). In order to make translation work organized as the orginal pages, the second step should be put on important templates and categories. The objectives above should be completed around the middle of January next year according to my plan, and with these preparation completed, we could call on more people to join us.
For the time being, I have copied Template:Lang from wiki.tf for basic translation switching support, but the trouble ahead is, most templates on Overwiki are protected, what we can do at the moment is to create sub pages like Template:OverWiki/zh-hans, while I personally expect that they will be combined in the future. For the dictionary, the way we work on wiki.tf cannot be applied here, but I have created User:Dereko/Sandbox as a draft, with the concern about whether a single #switch is reliable for a big template.
This paragraph is about myself, I have contributed on wiki.tf for more than 2 years and brought/witnessed a big change of zh-hans translation there (of course, I will never take the credit myself). I have doubted myself a couple of times before creating an account here since this would be a huge challenge both for my Wiki editing/translating skill and personal time management, but I have confidence in my perseverance to devote to something I will regret if I never put in practice. And, It's even more pleasant for me to meet a compatriot here.
Thank you very much for your welcome and the intention for cooperating. Could you be so kind to help me fill more information in the dictionary draft? Yes, I am not sure if this will work well but that's definitely better than doing nothing.
Best regards for a memorable beginning of our friendship.

Wow. I hardly know where to start with after perusing your highly meticulous and ambitious plan. It is such great news for all of us HLers in China to see that the linguistic barrier will be broken and that the most reliable source of information will no longer be unreachable. I couldn't be online as often as on summer vacation (during which I did a gargantuan amount of editing) now, but I sure will be keeping track of the work under way. By the way, my QQ account is 2247582311, just in case when lengthy communication is required.Requiem (talk) 17:59, 6 December 2020 (MSK)
