Combine and Resistance technology categories[edit]
First, should Category:Combine technology images be part of this meta-category?
Second, I think similarly to it, there should be a Resistance technology images category, which would both include sub-categories like Category:Multi-tool images or Category:Gravity Gloves (Half-Life: Alyx) images, and individual images such as the Antlion Detector, as currently it's not categorised as technology and in order to change that, it only has this general category to be assigned to (unless I'm missing some other category). Feels like Category:Rocket images could also benefit from being better described if some of the rockets are Resistance tech (well, that's the one rocket, then).
Third, and it's more tangentially related, but I'll ask now anyway. I was looking at Category:Autogun images and it's not part of the Combine technology images category, nor is Category:Pulse weapon images. Before intertwining categories into each other and such I thought it's best to ask if it should be done. It looks like something like the Autogun should be findable within Combine technology images, but the categories become more and more ambiguous the deeper you go into them, so what's the good rule of thumb? Should the category - Autogun images - be part of Combine technology images or should the images themselves be tagged with Combine technology images category? - I have not had time in the past few weeks do a deep dive into the current category setups, but I am aware that there is work required here, both in what categories exist and what is assigned to which category, including other categories. For this purpose, I would advise using the CategoryTree page which can offer a cursory visualization of the current setup. I see that Category:Autogun images and Category:Pulse weapon images are children categories deep in the tree of Category:Combine technology but not Category:Combine technology images, as you mentioned. The concern here is whether subcategories should appear multiple times within different branches of the same tree, and I don't have an answer to this at the moment. Any shortcomings in the present arrangement are likely the result of it being put together piecemeal over many years, so having a few pairs of eyes take stock of the entire tree at large should help put it all into perspective.
