Relationships: Clean up[edit]

If anyone has any spare time could they possibly clean up the "relationships" section? Its writing style is, quite frankly, awful - Magnusson's description reads "Arne Magnusson

While Eli is the opposite to Isaac, Arnie is just a jerk. He is dominating and overbearing, something that is too much for a character like Isaac to take. "................... "just a jerk". Clearly a perfectly suitable phrase for an encyclopedia. Please fix this! JgcxCub 23:54, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Wow, yeah. I'll get right on it.--YabbaMyIcing 00:35, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
Ok, I think it looks much better now.--YabbaMyIcing 00:43, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Appearance in Half-Life[edit]

While scanning over the Black Mesa Wiki, I came across Isaac Kleiner's page, who is included in the mod. At first I thought they just added him in the Anomalous Materials test chamber area for the sake of including him in the story, however, according to the wiki, "Kleiner's appearances in Black Mesa are as dictated by Marc Laidlaw himself". Seeing as he appears in the mod as the scientist who opens the door for Gordon when on his way down to the chamber, and as the wounded scientist being treated by Eli, I think we can assume that the "Einstein" scientist model that appears in these places in the original game is a retconned Kleiner. If Valve themselves told the Black Mesa mod team this, I think we should implement it as well. The page can be seen here. - Halo-343 20:24, February 25, 2010 (UTC)

I saw that, but I need more than "as dictated by Marc Laidlaw himself", thus a more solid source. It's not even in Marc Laidlaw Vault. The part where Eli is referred to as helping Kleiner is the part where he loses his leg, which is not seen in HL. Laidlaw suggested it was either in BM or City 17, and it was later confirmed to be C17. So, if this is actually Kleiner (and why not?), I need a better proof. Klow 23:27, February 25, 2010 (UTC)

"MIT professsor"?[edit]

I don't remember him ever saying this anywhere... Could somebody clear up whether or not he does say, or imply, this anywhere in-game? Bramblepath 07:41, February 11, 2011 (UTC)

In the letter in the half life instruction manual, it is said that he was Gordons mentor at MIT, and to be a mentor, you gotta be a professor there.--Fijure 12:18, February 11, 2011 (UTC)
I thought it might be somewhere there... Thanks. Bramblepath 17:53, February 11, 2011 (UTC)

Relationships: Kleiner and Eli[edit]

It says that Eli is the opposite of Kleiner. Kleiner is also described here as "reserved, logical, and cautious". Would anyone be opposed to me changing this? Because I, for one, don't find Kleiner reserved at all, and "cautious" is one of the last words I would use to describe him. And while he and Eli are opposite in a few ways, I think Magnusson is much better suited to be described as his overall opposite. NoriMori 13:39, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

Cut death[edit]

In the Half-Life 2 beta leak, Kleiner gets killed by the teleporter, but Marphy keeps reverting the edit saying that this is false and doesn't happen. However, you can see it in Bolloxed's video, just after he finishes all the variations of City 17, so I think it does happen. Correct me if I am wrong. In the leak only voice lines of teleporter scene exist. The scene you're talking about was never made. Bolloxed video you mentioned was recorded on my fix of d1_lab_01 which is a mockup of how this scene would look like if Valve actually realized it on the map.
The only hint of presumable death of dr. Kleiner is Barney's line "Oh doc, you poor sup". Also later in 2003 something simillar was to happen with Kleiner during lab scene with Alyx after Nova Prospekt. However we cannot be 100% sure he was indeed to die during those scenes. No where has Valve ever stated that Kleiner was planned to die, and this is easy enough to verify since any source stating such would swiftly put an end to this issue.
Additionally, there is no such scripted sequence depicting Kleiner dying included in either any of the leak's compiled maps or the source VMF files. This would be trivial to identify if it existed.
And finally, no dialog in the leak mentions Kleiner dying. We have transcripts of pretty much all of the leak lines here on the wiki by now, so we can reference any of that simply enough.
However, for some reason, there's an interpretation that Barney's leak line "Ah, Doc! You poor sap!" somehow implies Kleiner's death. Ignoring how the delivery and the written line itself hardly conveys such a sentiment, we know this line occurs after Kleiner follows Lamarr into the teleporter. And that's it. Nothing suggests this act is fatal to either Lamarr or Kleiner, and we see this in the final game when Lamarr does indeed jump into the teleport and appear just fine later in the game. We even have evidence from the leak from Alyx's line "Poor Dr. Kleiner." that there was a different iteration of the second teleporter scene where Kleiner again follows Lamarr into the teleporter, in this case explicitly after Lamarr already did this once before earlier in the game and returned safely.
We have outright confirmation that Barney was once planned to die, and yet though he's actually present right alongside him in this same story, Kleiner wasn't hinted at dying even then. There simply isn't a shred of evidence that Valve ever planned Kleiner's death in any iteration of the game. Claims to the otherwise are just unfounded speculation. Oh, alright. I never knew that the video was being played with modified map files. Thanks for that information. Sausagea1000 (talk) 04:41, 19 December 2020 (MSK)

New infobox image[edit]

I'm not sure how I feel about this new infobox image. Kleiner kinda looks like he's staring into my soul and I don't like it. -Gulliblepikmin 09:23, 30 November 2023 (MSK)
