History[edit]
Half-Life Fallout (originally named Half-Life 2 Fallout and hosted at hl2fallout.com)[1] was founded by Josh "Mr Bond" Klose, former member of CS-Nation and HalfLife2.net, as part of the Ogre's Net team, starting work on April 2003.[2] Half-Life Fallout launched officially on June 1, 2003, featuring a section of pre-release information on Half-Life 2, FAQs, a gallery of screenshots, concept art and wallpapers, press links, and forums.[1] By September 22, 2004, the site had moved to its final domain and been renamed Half-Life Fallout.[3]
At the time of Half-Life 2's launch on November 16, 2004, Gabe Newell personally announced the game's release on the Half-Life Fallout forums.[4]
On October 14, 2005, Half-Life Fallout formally separated from Ogre's Net, becoming fully independent.[5]
Mr Bond relinquished control of Half-Life Fallout to new site owner Mutley on August 27, 2009.[6] A new version of Half-Life Fallout was launched on January 26, 2010.[7] Staff member Brumisator became the site administrator in early 2011[8] and the third major redesign of the website, designed by Jonathon "City 17" Wilson, was launched on April 2011.[9] A fourth version of the website would later be launched on July 2014.[10]
By January 2021, after a period of renewed activity with the announcement of Half-Life: Alyx, a new homepage was released teasing a relaunch, though that had yet to occur by 2025. However, the community remains active on Discord.[11]
Legacy[edit]
