The Zero Point Generator, also known as the ZPG, is a weapon cut from Half-Life with unknown effects. The only evidence of its existence are damage settings for it in Half-Life: Day One and a remnant mention of it in the code files of the Half-Life SDK.
In the skill.cfg
file of Day One, the comment "// Zero Point Generator" precedes the console variable "sk_plr_zpg
" definitions where the weapon is only defined a damage point value of 1 for all difficulty level settings.[1] In game.cpp
of the Half-Life SDK, which provides an initialized list of the skill.cfg
settings, only the ZPG's name in the aforementioned comment remains, the console variables being replaced by those used by the Tau Cannon.[2] The position of the ZPG in both of these files suggests some relation to the Tau Cannon, possibly being an early or alternate name for the weapon. It was unclear to the community in the time leading up to the game's release in 1998 if the ZPG was a separate weapon from the Tau Cannon and Gluon Gun.[3]
