The Combine Heavy Machine Gun[1] is the primary weapon of Combine Suppressors in Half-Life: Alyx.

Overview[edit]

The Heavy Machine Gun's appearance somewhat mirrors that of a minigun, with a joystick-like rear grip that houses the trigger and a foldable bipod under the barrel. There is a large carrying handle on its top, and a magazine glowing with orange energy reminiscent of the AR2 is fitted to the right side. A set of ventilation flaps at the rear of the barrel shroud open while firing, presumably functioning as heat sinks. There appears to be red laser sights mounted on the handle and the barrel, however they are never seen used in-game. The weapon can fire 120 shots in total, in six bursts of 20, before needing to be reloaded. Due to its high damage, decent range and high fire rate, the heavy machine gun is extremely effective at suppressive fire, living up to the Suppressors' namesake. However, the weapon has pronounced intervals between barrages, along with a whirring sound before and after firing which announces its waves of attack. The player can use this to their advantage and decide the proper time to strike back accordingly.

Like all other weapons wielded by Combine troops in Alyx, the Heavy Machine Gun cannot be picked up and used by the player. If picked up in non-VR debug mode, it appears in the first weapon slot and is named #HL2_Pulse_Rifle.
