- "Train comes to a halt. You deal with the Combine situation. And we get your dad back."
- ― Russell to Alyx Vance[src]
Fairview Junction, also referred to as Fairview Station,[1] is a City 17 Metro station located in the Quarantine Zone and featured in the third chapter of Half-Life: Alyx, Is Or Will Be.
Overview[edit]
The station was previously part of City 17's metro, and was connected to lines 1, 2, 3, and 4. It is a sunken structure, with staircases on the side linking to ground level and a rail overpass above. It features a single track and platform with a junction that splits it into two directions leading into different tunnels. There is also an auxiliary track with a train parked on it, supporting buildings, and a control room, in which the original human terminals are replaced with Combine ones.
One of the tunnels is sealed off, and the space behind it is converted by the Combine into an abyssal cavity, rendering the station's original purpose as a junction obsolete. Instead, it now functions as a railway checkpoint, refurbished with Combine Force Fields that prevent unauthorized access, and health chargers to support Combine troops. Razor Trains regularly pass through the place, and Combine Grunts are stationed there to repel threats such as Zombies.
When Eli Vance gets captured by the Combine, Russell figures out that the Combine’s next step will be to transport him to Nova Prospekt by razor train. Russell hatches a plan where Alyx Vance would intercept the train and rescue her father when it passes through Fairview Junction. When she eventually arrives and eliminates the Combine forces there in a firefight, she heads to the control room to attempt to stop the train. Inside the room, she hacks into the control panel to gain access, and attempts to pull the handle that would activate the brakes on the tracks, but it breaks off unexpectedly. She finds a manual override lever for the railroad switch outside the control room and pulls it, causing the transport train to derail into the walled off tunnel, causing a nearby factory chimney to crumble down. The derailed train eventually grinds to a halt, and Alyx rescues her father in the wreckage of the train with the help of Gary.

Trivia[edit]
A game over message appears if the player does not manage to stop the train as it passes through the station: "ASSIGNMENT: TERMINATED / SUBJECT: ALYX VANCE / REASON: FAILURE TO PRESERVE MISSION-CRITICAL RESOURCES", making it the only occurrence for such messages to appear, except for the opening and ending.
Space Ocean, a track reused from the original Half-Life soundtrack, plays when the player passes through a room on their way to retrieve a Combine Memory Tank. It is renamed Tri-Vector Pre-Reverberation in Alyx, and also once appeared in Half-Life 2 under the name Echoes of a Resonance Cascade.
