Fairview Junction, also referred to as Fairview Station, is a location in Half-Life: Alyx featured in the chapter Is or Will Be.


The Combine have established Fairview Junction as a railway checkpoint inside the Quarantine Zone. The station seems to previously have functioned as part of City 17's metro, judging by presence of a map of the Metro in one of it's buildings. The station features a single track with a junction that splits it into two different directions, an extra track with a train parked on it, and a supporting building. Near the junction is also a control room for operating the switch. The tracks diverging from the junction lead into two tunnels, but one of the tunnels is walled off, implying that the station was repurposed from being a junction at some point. Instead, the station now functions as a checkpoint, refurbished with Combine force fields that prevent unauthorized access, and Combine health chargers to support Combine troops.


Half-Life: Alyx[edit]

When Eli Vance gets captured by the Combine, Russell figures out that the Combine’s next step will be to transport him to Nova Prospekt by razor train. Russell hatches a plan where Alyx Vance would intercept the train when it passes through Fairview Junction, before the train reaches its destination. While Russell originally intended for Alyx to take a train to Fairview Junction, the train would only go to the edge of the Quarantine Zone, so she continues her travels by foot. When she eventually arrives, she finds Combine guards are present at the junction. After eliminating the Combine forces in a firefight, she heads to the control room to attempt to stop the train. Inside the room, she hacks into a control panel to gain access. She then attempts to pull the lever that would activate the brakes on the tracks, but the handle breaks off and she is forced to find another solution. She finds a manual override lever for the railroad switch in the yard outside of the control room and pulls it, causing the prisoner transport to derail into a walled off tunnel. The derailed train eventually grinds to a halt, and Alyx rescues her father in the wreckage of the train with the help of Gary.
