Metro Area[1] is a City 17 Metro station located in the Quarantine Zone and featured in the second chapter of Half-Life: Alyx, The Quarantine Zone.
Overview[edit]
The station's name "Metro Area", possibly short for "Metropolitan Area", comes from the metro map of City 17, as no signs are visible on its platforms. It was connected to lines 1 and 4. Situated coterminously to the outer walls of the deserted Quarantine Zone, Metro Area is in a state of disrepair, with its tunnel ceiling partially demolished and Xen infestation taking over many of its maintenance structures. Like most other locations in the QZ, the Combine Infestation Control once managed to establish a checkpoint here and have installed various equipments to cleanse the alien fauna, but they ultimately failed the attempt, rendering many of their personnel possessed by Headcrabs and the station completely abandoned.
Metro Area is the first subway station visited by Alyx Vance, making it an important tutorial location where she familiarizes with her newly acquired pistol, and has her first encounters with Zombies. There she also uses the Health Pen and Combine Fabricator for the first time, acquainting herself with their functions.
