Half-Life and Half-Life: Decay[edit]

nil_thieves Thieves... you all are thieves... you all are... Heard in Decay by the Vortigaunts X-8973 and R-4913 at the beginning of the bonus mission Xen Attacks. This appears to be a reference to the Xen crystals as the two Vortigaunts are subsequently sent to Earth to recover a group of them from Black Mesa.

nil_comes Comes another... Said to Gordon Freeman in Half-Life when he first enters Xen. Could be seen as a reference to the many who tried and failed before Gordon, as evidenced by the HEV suit-clad corpses littering the border world.
Audioplayer.png
nil_done Done... what have you done... Said when Gordon enters the chapter Interloper after defeating the Gonarch. Thought to refer to the Gonarch's death by Gordon's doing.
Audioplayer.png
nil_die Die... you all die... you all die... Spoken during the second part of the chapter. Possibly a taunt.
Audioplayer.png
nil_alone Alone... not you alone... not you alone... Spoken twice, initially when Gordon first enters the Mines and again during the battle with the Nihilanth when Gordon is transported by the Nihilanth's teleport orb for the first time. Implied to reference the G-Man watching Gordon.
Audioplayer.png
nil_thelast The last... I am the last... Said when Gordon enters the final section of Interloper near an eerie, coral-like altar with a red portal. Could reference Nihilanth's status as the last of his species, the last thing keeping the Combine off of Earth, and the last boss.
Audioplayer.png
nil_freeman Freeman! The Nihilanth screams out Gordon's name at the very beginning of the game's final battle, indicating that it knows him by name. Presumably a taunt.
Audioplayer.png
nil_thetruth The truth... you can never know... the truth... Said when the player is teleported the second time. Possibly referring to the many unsolved mysteries of the story.
Audioplayer.png
nil_deceive Deceive you... will deceive you... Said when the player is teleported the third time. Described as a warning about the G-Man.[1]
Audioplayer.png
nil_now_die Now die... now die... now... Said when the player is teleported the fourth time.

nil_win Win... you cannot win... Intended to be said when Gordon first arrives at the Gonarch's Lair. Later unintentionally enabled in Half-Life: Source.
Audioplayer.png
nil_last The last... you are the last... you are... Could reference Gordon being the final human to enter Xen and confront the Nihilanth.
Audioplayer.png
nil_man_notman You are man... he is not man... for you he waits... for you... Thought to be another allusion to the G-Man.
Audioplayer.png
nil_slaves Their slaves... we are their slaves... we are... Originally referring to a seemingly unknown higher entity, Half-Life 2 would reveal the Combine as a larger force that subjugated even the Nihilanth.[2][3] Later used in Half-Life: Source when first entering the Mines, replacing the line nil_alone.
