Mike left behind his engineering and computer science studies at the University of Massachusetts to work in the video game industry in 1997. He had worked at Epic Games, Ritual Entertainment, before joining Gearbox Software in February 1999. Since then, he has worked on expansions and ports of Half-Life.[4]

Mike Wardwell – Level Design
Before joining Gearbox Software’s design team, Mike worked for Ritual Entertainment where he contributed to SiN and the highly rated Quake Mission Pack #1: Scourge of Armagon. Before Ritual, after he left school at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst where he studied engineering and computer science, Mike briefly worked for Epic Megagames contributing to the Unreal project. Mike also currently holds a post with the Cyberathlete Professional League as their Director of Tournaments.

For Gearbox, Mike created more of the Half-Life: Opposing Force environments than any other designer at our company. Mike also currently holds a post with the Cyberathlete Professional League as their League Commissioner where he manages the largest professional gaming competitions in the industry.
