- Alyx Vance: "We need to get back on the road, but our engine's shot to hell. I don't suppose you've got any tools for working on cars?"
- Rebel: "Tools? We've got a whole shop over there!"
- ―Alyx Vance and an unnamed Resistance fighter[src]
Station 21 (Russian "Станция 21 город", "Stantsiya 21 gorod"), also called the junkyard[1] or the scrap yard,[2] located in the Outlands, is a former trainstation as well as a complex of warehouses and industrial buildings controlled by the Resistance, partially overtaken by Zombies and the Combine.
During the Half-Life 2: Episode Two chapters Riding Shotgun and Under the Radar, Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance pass through the area on their way to White Forest.

Overview[edit]
The junkyard outpost, which "normally runs supplies to the White Forest base", as said by a rebel, consists of three main locations: train station, where Gordon defeats the Hunter-Chopper by launching its bombs back at it; the mechanic's storehouse and nearby hangars, including the large warehouse where the Autogun is located; and a large industrial area - home to various Zombies - where the first three transponder-equipped Supply Crates are found. Many railways, on which train wrecks rest, lead to Station 21.
The first area, situated on the railway tracks, near an entrance to a concrete tunnel, consists mainly of train wrecks and containers, although a large hall with a Suit Charger inside, an entrance to a car workshop, and a Resistance Watchtower can all be seen. There are two entrances to the train yard: the first, the main one, marked with a Lambda logo and powered by a diesel generator, and the second one, leading into the tunnel.
The second area, called the scrap yard, includes a rebel garage, the Autogun building, which seems to be an old Veikko International facility, several minor warehouses, and the space between them. Filled mainly with toxic water, car wrecks and containers, it is home to various Zombies - both those coming from City 17, and, since Headcrab Shells can be seen, those who previously were members of the Resistance or the Combine forces. In the fenced off Autogun area, several Overwatch units are stationed, blocking the supply run to White Forest.
The third, largest, industrial area resembles a town. Besides many minor buildings, situated along the road that joins the highway leading to White Forest Inn, there are three significant places. The first one is a shooting gallery near the first cache found in a car wreck; the other two are: a larger warehouse with a crumpled van sticking out of it, where the next cache and an RPG can be found after solving a physics puzzle, and a container yard with the third cache located under the floor of a building in the middle of the area, and marked by a sawblade sticking out of the wooden planks. Many Zombies are present, along with containers, car wrecks, and barrels. Similar to the previous area, another water tower can be seen.
Appearances[edit]
Half-Life 2: Episode Two[edit]
After an unpleasant meeting with the Barn Advisor, and while being chased by a Hunter-Chopper, Gordon and Alyx arrive at the next Resistance outpost. With the Muscle Car crashed into a fence, they agree to help a group of rebels take the aircraft out. Freeman lives up to the promise by throwing its bombs back, which eventually results in the chasers' death.
Repairing the car won't be a problem, thanks to the rebel mechanic and the copious parts in the storehouse. In return for the favor, one of the Resistance fighters asks Gordon whether he would be able to take out an Autogun, set up in a nearby building a few days ago, that is impeding the rebel supply runs to White Forest. Gordon goes through a trap door and proceeds further, killing Zombies, Zombines and Overwatch units on his way. He sneaks up behind the Autogun and drops a Grenade into its control systems; another Combine machine is destroyed.
Not only did the rebels repair the Muscle Car but also threw something extra - an on-board radar, which picks up 'little beacon jobbers', allowing Gordon to gain access to many Supply Crates left over by the Resistance members. Gordon and Alyx continue their journey to White Forest, driving through an old industrial city and collecting supplies.

Behind the scenes[edit]
According to Dan LeFree, originally, the Episode Two Hunter-Chopper battle was a classic fight that relied on the use of the RPG. During the development, Valve employees were experimenting with a completely new way of fighting the chopper which they hoped to have ready for Episode Three. The early experiments were so successful that they pulled them straight into Episode Two.
An even earlier version had a rebel shooting the Hunter-Chopper down at the entrance to the base with an RPG, and instead of destroying the Autogun, Gordon would have to traverse a zombie-filled trainyard and flip a switch to power the rails up. This would have the side effect of electrifying the rails and setting fire to all zombies which stepped on them. Gordon would then enter a train and maneuver it over a set of points to ram a barricade, allowing him and Alyx to continue to a radio tower. It appears that in this version, Station 21 appeared prior to the radio tower.
Trivia[edit]
Two skeletons can be found on a couch, slumped in a similar pose to that of the Consoling Couple, in one of the warehouses in the industrial settlement. This sighting is merely an Easter egg as they are seen alive later in the game.
