"Pity the generator that requires a Vortigaunt to operate it."
Lone Vort[src]

The generator trailer is a diesel generator widely used by the Resistance to keep bases functional and in some cases to control gates that would keep things out of specified areas, or even elevators.

Appearances[edit]

Half-Life 2[edit]

In Half-Life 2, it can be seen by the Airboat at Station 6, in Black Mesa East, providing power to the church cart in Ravenholm, and providing light to the Bugbait training area in the Vortigaunt Camp, among other locations. It also provides power to a Combine Thumper located right before the Vortigaunt Camp.

Half-Life 2: Episode One[edit]

In Episode One, several idle generators can be found in the City 17 Underground, most likely being used by the Resistance before the Headcrab, Barnacle, and Antlion infestations, as well as Combine attacks.

Half-Life 2: Episode Two[edit]

Episode Two introduces an improved model with a brighter yellow color, equipped with a crank. The Vortigaunts are also shown for the first time to be able to start up the generator with electric discharges. Several are powered up by the Lone Vort in the Victory Mine.

Half-Life: Alyx[edit]

The generators seen in Alyx are simply props, not functional sources of power. They vaguely resemble their Half-Life 2 counterparts but have a plain dark-green color scheme rather than the previous bright orange. They also feature a spare tire and wheel guards.
