The Robot Enrichment is a feature of Portal 2’s co-op mode which allows the players to customize ATLAS and P-body's looks using such things as skins, hats and gestures. It is only available on PC.

Overview[edit]

Overall, the Robot Enrichment menu is similar to the Team Fortress 2's item customization interface, however the items available here are purely cosmetic and do not affect the gameplay in any way. The players can equip various items in four slots: headgear, miscellaneous, gesture and skin. These items are stored in the backpack, which consists of six pages, each able to hold 50 items, thus providing a space for 300 items. No means of expanding the backpack capacity were provided, as even this amount is more than enough to store all of the game's items.

While some of the items are shared with Team Fortress 2 or can be earned by completing certain achievements, most items can only be obtained by either purchasing in the in-game store or trading with other players that purchased them. Not enjoying the popularity of the Team Fortress 2's Mann Co. Store, the Robot Enrichment Store was shut down around 2015,[1] but was eventually reopened in 2018.[2]

Items[edit]

Headwear[edit]

Roll Cage headwear was awarded to the players who pre-ordered the game through GameStop (USA) or EB Games (Australia). It does not exist as a separate item, and is instead selected by leaving the headwear slot empty.

It does not exist as a separate item, and is instead selected by leaving the miscellaneous slot empty. Glasses and facial hair are also incompatible with the Roll Cage and will cause it to disappear.

Scrapped[edit]

Headwear[edit]

A backpack icon for an unused brown beret can be found in the game files. The model's texture as well as another unused yellow variation can be recovered from the game's VPK file. The VPK also contains earlier textures for the Fancy Fedora depicting it in its "An Extraordinary Abundance of Tinge" form.

Trivia[edit]

Portal 2 was to feature an in-game trading system, likely similar to the one used in Team Fortress 2 at the time. It was not implemented at the game's launch and was supposed to be added in a later update, as stated in the pop-up message shown instead of the trading menu, but the idea was eventually abandoned. The players became able to exchange their items when the functionality got incorporated in the Steam client itself on September 6, 2011.[9] The trading button was removed in an update on February 18, 2021.[10]
