The Status effects are a gameplay mechanic present in the Battle Mode of Half-Life 2: Survivor.

Overview[edit]

Status effects include different player conditions that are usually caused by a specific weapon and can be both positive and negative. Status effects affect player's view and appearance, and are also displayed on the player's HUD, and thus can be easily determined both by the affected player and all the other players. It is possible for multiple status effects to be simultaneously applied to a player, in that case all of their visual effects will be visible at the same time, and HUD will cycle between their icons, showing only one at a time.

All status effects are removed after certain amount of time or player's death, and can usually be cured by the Recovery Injection. Some of the effects also disappear when the affected player submerges in water or picks up a dog tag from killed enemy player.

Negative effects[edit]

Poison HUD.pngPoison[edit]

The title of this section was translated for the wiki. The name of this subject in the original language, Japanese, is "".

The Poison effect causes player to slowly lose health. Poison deals 3 points of damage each 1.5 seconds and lasts for 18 seconds if not cured,[1] thus being able to deal a maximum of 39 points of damage in 13 hits. Player's view will be tinted purple with occasional bubble effects, other players will see purple smoke coming from the infected. All players that touch the smoke will also become infected. It is indicated by a purple skull icon.

Players can get this effect by getting hit by a Poison Crossbow's bolt or touching the purple smoke from other infected players, Poison Grenade or exploded poison barrels, making it one of the only two status effects not requiring a specific weapon (the other one being restart invulnerability).

This status effect can also be cured by submerging in water or picking up enemy dog tags.

Capture HUD.pngCapture[edit]

The title of this section was translated for the wiki. The name of this subject in the original language, Japanese, is "捕縛".

The Capture effect stops player from being able to move and attack. The effect lasts for a maximum of 10 seconds, but the captured player may escape faster by attempting to move in alternating opposite directions (left-right or forwards-backwards), which is indicated on the screen. Alternating between non-opposite directions, as well as alternating between standing still and moving in one direction, will not shorten the capture time. While captured, player appears to be surrounded by a semi-transparent cylindrical wall with sparks flying off after each escape attempt. It is indicated by a pink ring icon.

Power of the capture effect is also different for each character. Capture power indicates how many attempts to move in two opposite directions have to be made.

Character Ranger Soldier Sniper Engineer Medic
Capture power[1] 12 18 15 17 15

Players can get this effect by being in the explosion radius of the Shake Trap, Powershake or Capture Grenade.

This status effect can not be cured by the Recovery Injection.

Paralysis HUD.pngParalysis[edit]

The title of this section was translated for the wiki. The name of this subject in the original language, Japanese, is "麻痺".

While under the effects of Paralysis, player's movement speed and jump power are reduced by 40% and 60% respectively.[1] Effect lasts for 8 seconds if uncured. Player appears to be surrounded by circling yellow sparks and emitting light yellow smoke. It is indicated by a yellow lightning bolt icon.

Players become paralysed by getting hit by a Stungun or shot from the Stun Sniper Rifle.

This status effect can also be cured by submerging in water or picking up enemy dog tags.

Paint HUD.pngPaint[edit]

The title of this section was translated for the wiki. The name of this subject in the original language, Japanese, is "ペイント".

Players get the Paint status effect after being shot with the Paint Gun. Players affected become covered in light-green paint, which blocks their field of view, and are constantly displayed on the enemy radar. The body part being hit does not seem to have any effect on the paint overlay size or position in first person view. This effect can last for up to 20 seconds. It is indicated by a green paint splash icon.

This status effect can also be cured by submerging in water.

Whiteout[edit]

The title of this section was translated for the wiki. The name of this subject in the original language, Japanese, is "ホワイトアウト".

Players get the Whiteout effect by being near the Whiteout Grenade's explosion. When under this effect, player's screen becomes completely white, except for the HUD. This status effect has no HUD icon and doesn't affect the player's model, thus other players have no easy way to determine whether a player is blinded or not.

This status effect can not be cured by the Recovery Injection.

Marking HUD.pngMarking[edit]

The title of this section was translated for the wiki. The name of this subject in the original language, Japanese, is "マーキング".

While under the Marking effect, players are always displayed on the enemy radar. They are also marked with a cross, which is visible from a close distance, even through walls. This effect lasts for 120 seconds. Players are marked after being shot from the Marking Sniper Rifle. It is indicated by a green crosshair icon.

Positive effects[edit]

Retail[edit]

Restart Invulnerability HUD.pngRestart Invulnerability[edit]

The title of this section was translated for the wiki. The name of this subject in the original language, Japanese, is "リスタート無敵".

Restart invulnerability is the second of the two status effects that does not require specific weapon or item (the first one being poison due to the poisonous gas barrels). It is applied automatically upon player's spawn, and blocks all incoming damage to the player. It will also prevent any negative status effects from being applied to the player, positive effects, however, can still be obtained. Other players will see a "RESTART" text floating in front of the player, in first person view the effect is indicated by a circle with "RESTART!" text in it that rotates around the crosshair, this same circle is also displayed on the HUD. This status effect can stay active for only 5 seconds.

Drink effects[edit]

Status effects obtained from drinks are unique in that only one drink's effect can be applied to a player at the same time, if a drink is used or picked up while some other drink's effect is already active, the first effect will be cancelled. All of these effects also have two levels, the second can be obtained by using or picking up a drink while the same drink's effect is already active. If a third drink of the same type is used or picked up after that, it will be consumed, but will only prolong the duration of the effect.

Power-Up HUD.pngPower-Up[edit]

The title of this section was translated for the wiki. The name of this subject in the original language, Japanese, is "パワーアップ".

Available from the Power Drink. While under the effects of Power-Up, player's movement speed and jump power are increased by 40% and 20% respectively, damage dealt with melee weapons is increased by 20% and incoming damage resistance increases by 20%.[1] Player's view becomes darker near the screen edges, others will see yellow flames covering the player (burning sound can also be heard, even by the affected player). Second level of the effect seems to increase all the stats once more by the same amount, and first person view gets darkened even more. This status effect's maximum duration time is 10 seconds. It is indicated by an orange circle with "Pup" written in it.

This status effect is removed after submerging in water.

Concentration HUD.pngConcentration[edit]

The title of this section was translated for the wiki. The name of this subject in the original language, Japanese, is "コンセントレーションアップ".

Available from the Mind Drink. While under the effects of Concentration, player's bullet spread is reduced by 50% and screen will shake 30% less at the time of taking damage[1] (does not seem to affect shake when firing the Gatling Gun). Player also becomes immune to Poison, Paralysis, Paint and Marking status effects, but is still susceptible to Capture and Whiteout. Player's view becomes blue, with a circle around the center, others will see blue flames covering the player (burning sound can also be heard, even by the affected player). This status effect's maximum duration time is 13 seconds. It is indicated by a blue circle with "Mup" written in it.

This status effect is removed after submerging in water.

Jump Boost HUD.pngJump Boost[edit]

The title of this section was translated for the wiki. The name of this subject in the original language, Japanese, is "ジャンプアップ".

Available from the Jump Drink. While under the effects of Jump Boost, player's jump power and melee attack damage while mid-jump are increased by 100%.[1] The player also gains immunity to fall damage and increased shooting accuracy while mid-jump. When used for the second time, jump power and melee attack damage while mid-jump are increased by additional 300% and 800% respectively.[1] Green colored tornado effect circles the affected player. This status effect's maximum duration time is 15 seconds. It is indicated by a green circle with "Jup" written in it.

This status effect is removed after submerging in water.

Cut[edit]

Invisible HUD.pngInvisibility[edit]

The title of this section is unofficial. Although it is based on official information, the actual name of this subject was created for the wiki.

Available from the Invisible Suit. This effect allows the player to become partially invisible. This effect only acts on the player himself, the held weapons can still be seen, except for the Invisible Suit itself. Player's hands in first person view are also supposed to disappear, but this does not work with some weapons, likely due to the Invisible Suit not being finished. Player is able to use weapons while invisible, but becomes visible after taking damage. Activation and deactivation of this effect is accompanied by sparks and electrical noises. This status effect's maximum duration time is 20 seconds.
