Powerhouse is a multiplayer map in Half-Life 2: Deathmatch. It was added to the game in the April 13, 2005 update[2] after being awarded second runner-up in the Valve Half-Life 2: Deathmatch Map Contest.[1]
Overview[edit]
Powerhouse features an original layout set inside of an unknown brick building surrounded by various industrial structures, stated to be a powerhouse. The map is divided into two rooms: the crane room and the platform room, each having an upper and lower level. Both of these rooms are connected via a series of hallways.
Both rooms have some verticality to them, with the crane room having an additional level above the upper and lower level. This top level of the crane room can be accessed by two ladders on both sides, with it containing two S.L.A.M charges, two Grenades, and a RPG on the crane's bridge. The upper-level hallway containing the Suit Charger has a grated floor, allowing players to shoot any hitscan weapon (i.e. the SMG) and the Crossbow through it onto the hallway below, and vice versa.
Similar to Steam Lab and Lockdown, Powerhouse is a close-medium range map, with some room for players to move around in its areas. The map features a noticeable lack of physics props, aside from crates and explosive barrels for players to use the Gravity Gun with.
Weapon pickups throughout the map are marked with a Lambda symbol underneath the pickup itself.
Behind the scenes[edit]
Powerhouse is author Michael Schulz's second multiplayer map to be officially added to a Half-Life title after winning a mapping contest, the first being Rapidcore in Half-Life.[3][4] As second runner-up in the HL2DM contest, Schulz was awarded a $3,000 prize.[5]
