Resistance is a multiplayer map in Half-Life 2: Deathmatch. It was added to the game in the April 13, 2005 update[2] after being awarded first runner-up in the Valve Half-Life 2: Deathmatch Map Contest.[1]
Overview[edit]
Resistance is an original small-medium sized map, set inside and outside of a large brick building next to a railroad. The map has slight inspirations from Ravenholm (outside) and Nova Prospekt (inside) in terms of aesthetics.
Resistance is mainly a medium-ranged map similar to Overwatch, with some areas having more room for players to maneuver than others. The ledge overlooking the outer courtyard and the room above the main area can provide good vantage points, while the hallways and shower room make for great close-quarters fights.
Behind the scenes[edit]
Having started making maps at the age of 14 for Half-Life and Counter-Strike, Resistance was author Jonathan Linker's first work in the Source engine, and he spent four weeks creating the level.[3] As first runner-up in the HL2DM mapping contest, Linker was awarded a $3,000 prize.[4]
Resistance is based on the map Bodies from the game Blood.[2] The level shares an identical layout with very similar weapon and item placement. Linker had previously remade Bodies before as a deathmatch map for the original Half-Life.[5]
