The Marking Sniper Rifle, also known as the M-S-Rifle, is a purchasable weapon in the Battle Mode of Half-Life 2: Survivor, available to the Soldier and the Sniper for 200,000 SG. It was added to the game in the 2.05 update,[1] which was released on December 17, 2008.[2]

Overview[edit]

Like all the other Survivor's sniper rifles, the Marking Sniper Rifle features a scope with two selectable zoom modes (in comparison, the Crossbow's magnification lies somewhere between them). The secondary attack is used to toggle the scope and switch between the zoom modes. The Marking Sniper Rifle is one of the weakest weapons in Half-Life 2: Survivor, the others being the Stun Sniper Rifle and the Paint Gun, which makes it ineffective as a weapon. Instead, it is used because of its ability to mark the enemy players.

The Marking Sniper Rifle applies the Marking status effect to the hit enemies. The enemy team will see the marked player's position on their radars for the duration of the effect, a team colored crosshair can also be seen, even through walls, but only if the marked player is not too far. The effect lasts for a maximum of 120 seconds, which is much longer than any other status effect, and can only be removed by either the Recovery Injection or the player's death.

Trivia[edit]

Even though the damage dealt by the Marking Sniper Rifle is too low for it to be used to kill other players, it can be used to detonate the placed S.L.A.Ms, Powershakes and Wave Cancellers if no other weapons are available.
