Pool Party is a map in the multiplayer mode of Half-Life. It was added to the game in the 25th Anniversary Update on November 17, 2023.[1]

Overview[edit]

Pool Party centres around three large Healing Pools located on a floating island. Situated between two other structures (labeled as "PORT 01" and "PORT 02"), these islands form the map's area. The middle island features three Alien Trampolines, with two located at ground level and leading to bridges between the ports. The third trampoline leads to an elevated pump station, from which the Gluon Gun can be reached with a jump to another platform. There are also two more trampolines in the ports, each one being located in a storage hanger. Besides other players, a primary hazard of the map is the risk of falling off the island, and gaps exist between the entrances to the ports, as well as the bridges, where an unsuspecting player can fall to their death.

Most space within the ports consists of tight hallways and corridors, making any combat close-quarters. This excludes the storage areas, which present more space before opening outwards. Two bridges further connect the ports, allowing players to move between them without traversing the central island. On each side, the storage area contains a unique item; Port 01's holds the Long Jump Module, while Port 02's holds the Tau Cannon. Both storage areas contain Submachine Guns and ammunition, though Port 01 also has SMG grenades. The Rocket Launcher in this map is located directly to the right of the main entrance to Port 01 from the Healing Pools, and further ammunition can be found near the main entrance to Port 02.

Stylistically, Pool Party is primarily based on Xen, containing numerous shared elements such as the Healing Pools, floating islands, and the same skybox. However, it also contains more man-made elements, such as the ports. Beyond the confines of the map, one can see other floating islands, which are inaccessible and only partially textured.

Backstory[edit]

“Enjoy a relaxing stay at this abandoned Xen outpost built around a cluster of soothing healing pools free-floating in space. How do you breathe here? It doesn't matter!”
