Resistance communication varies from the use of radios and telecommunications, as well as more natural means, such as the Vortessence.

Overview[edit]
The Resistance communicates in many ways. The two main ways are radio and telecommunication and the Vortigaunts' natural way of communication, the Vortessence. Each of these categories can be broken down even further, as shown here:
Radio and telecommunication[edit]
- Radios: In the Underground Railroad or Resistance outposts, old analog radios are often used for communication. They are simple and easy to maintain. They are also sometimes connected to larger set-ups, with screens and additional equipment.
- Telecom devices: Sometimes in Resistance bases, such as White Forest, simple radios are replaced with larger set-ups - with monitors, radios, and other such equipment. Along with a camera on either end, these can be used for video transmission between bases and outposts. They can also be interfaced with Combine interfaces to achieve the same thing from Combine bases.
- Portable communication station: A portable set device, similar to a briefcase, used for mobile communications. It has a folding screen, antenna, and projector, which allows for a large, high-quality display without the fragility or bulk of normal screens. It can only be seen at the beginning of Episode One, as a static prop.
Vortigese communication[edit]
Certainly, the best form of communication between different outposts is the Vortigaunt. They are able to communicate over long distances verbally (by hollering), or mentally using the Vortessence.
