The Combine Watchtower is a watchtower platform found throughout City 17 and other Combine-controlled areas, usually placed on the sides of defensive structures. It is used to give Overwatch units a better view of the surroundings and to offer a good position to shoot from.

Overview[edit]

The Combine Watchtower consists of a metallic stem with a City 17 logo emblazoned on it, arched white tin roofing, and a short, level platform. It is usually manned by a single Combine Soldier or Metrocop who may fire a flare as a signal to call backup once a formidable force of Resistance is spotted. Although most watchtowers are inaccessible to normal citizens, some Resistance members can climb up onto them during the City 17 Uprising using ropes and drop supply crates there down onto the streets for other citizens. Watchtowers can be also found along the rim of the compound surrounding the Citadel, and are sometimes used as part of Combine Smart Barriers too.

Behind the scenes[edit]

In the WC map pack, an early brush Watchtower is often seen near a Sensor Gate. Most of the time, it has a Metrocop stationed there. As seen in combine_gallery_002, the cabin can be lowered to the ground for the officer to get into. It can be found in the Depot, Combine Factories and City 17 Trainstation maps.

The Half-Life 2 leak features an alternate variant of the Watchtower model without its characteristic white roof.[1]
