The Combine Datapod, labelled Combine Memory Device,[1] is a bio-mechanical Combine data storage device featured in Half-Life: Alyx.
Overview[edit]
Datapods are thin, metallic cards housing a circuit hooked up to a Xen Memory Brain[2] visible through a plate of glass. A sticker plastered over the front right center of the device prominently features a hand-drawn number "63" accompanied by other Combine alphabet-printed text including "CITY 17". The organic portion of the device appears to be similar in nature to that of the Memory Worms featured in Combine Interfaces, emitting a pulsating blue-green glow when active.
Half-Life: Alyx[edit]
After having been saved by Gary from a deadly fall in the Fairview Junction, Eli Vance reveals to his daughter, Alyx, that he had managed to steal a Combine datapod. When the two part ways, Eli makes his way back to Russell's Lab where he works to decrypt the datapod in order to gain information about a mysterious Vault. The information gathered from the device reveals that the Vault is actually a prison containing someone that the Combine considers to be a great threat, Eli and his daughter Alyx surmise that they must be holding Gordon Freeman.[3]
