The Battle Points, often abbreviated as BP, are Half-Life 2: Survivor's equivalent of experience points used in the Battle mode.

Overview[edit]

The battle points can only be earned while playing the battle mode in national submode. Player will not be awarded battle points while playing the local, single and tutorial submodes, as well as the story and mission modes.

Player will receive the battle points at the end of each played game. Amount of the points received will depend on player's rank, performance and team's score. Some actions may cause penalties to the battle points: if the amount of damage dealt to teammates or self exceeds a certain value, it will be subtracted from the player's award. Players who abandon games will also receive BP penalties.

By acquiring enough battle points player is able to reach higher class. Classes from D to AA each unlock an additional weapon and a weapon slot, which can be used to equip either the unlocked or purchased weapon. The player will lose the unlocked weapons if class is lowered.

As of the network service shutdown on February 1st of 2010, Battle Points are still awarded, but serve no purpose, since they can not be accumulated without a working NESYS card. Players without a card are only able to select either E-Class (beginner) or C-Class (medium), and because of that all weapons that are unlocked by reaching classes higher than C are no longer obtainable by normal means.

Acquisition[edit]

The total amount of the battle points awarded to player is calculated as a sum of four parts, based on different aspects of the game:

  1. Win/lose score
    • This amount only depends on player's class and game's outcome.
    • Additional 40 BP will be added if the game is ended before the time limit.
  2. Performance score
    • Is calculated based on difference between scores of both teams.
    • Sum of damage dealt to teammates and self may be subtracted from this score if it exceeds a certain value. If a penalty occurs, the number will be colored in red.
  3. Killstreak bonus
    • Is calculated based on the most enemy kills the player made in a single life (see below).
  4. MVP bonus
    • Additional 10 points are awarded to the player who has the highest score in the winning team.

A killstreak bonus is added if the player has killed a least two enemy players in a single life. The killstreak bonus can reach a maximum of 50 BP.

Kills 0 or 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 or more
BP 0 5 10 20 30 35 40 45 50

Also, if a player of A-Class or higher plays against a full team of bots, the amount of awarded Battle Points will be reduced by 90%.
